Hi,

I have decided to try wood pellets this year instead of shavings. I have read some other comments on bedding where people have said to put rubber matting down with wood pellets. I don't have any matting, but then again I didn't have it for shavings last year either.

So, the question is, do I need matting? What difference does it make?

Thanks. :)

You don't NEED rubber matting but it does mean you can use less bedding. I always rubber mats as I think it is better for the horses (warmer, less sloppy than oncrete, better for their joints).

I've just recently started with pellets and if you only want to put a bag or two down then yes need matting imo.But if willing to put more than a few bags to make a deeper bed to start with then add bag as required s it hould be just the same as when using shavings(I hope!!)
