Hi, Sorry for another feed post but the pink powder thread from a while ago got me thinking again.

Red is TB ex racer
5 yo
15.1
Cribs

Currently fed:
Adlib haylage
1 x feed (pm) of 2 scoops of alpha a oil
Pink powder
1 x suceed (digestive supplement on trial)
Sarc -ex
Turnout 7am -4pm daily

Current work rate is low due to cr*p weather but he is schooled or hacked for at least 45 mins 2-3 times a week in bad weather and 5 times in less windy and wild times. Hacks aren't mad, not masses of canter in schooling, mostly trot work. Also try to squueeze in a 15-20 min lunge session as one of the schooling sessions.

He isn't always the greatest do-oer and he could do with a bit more weight on him. I'd feed twice a day but he refuses to eat on a morning before he gets turned out. I was considering either switching to a balancer or to SS Total Eclipse, failing that keep him on his current feed and add linseed to it. He can be sensitive to feed and go loopy (build up mix is one) and I am trying to go for a fibre based/low starch feed to keep the cribbing down....

Any recommendations/thoughts welcome and thanks in advance :)

Sounds similar to my horse only mine can't tolerate alfalfa as well as practically every other feed on the planet! Mine does ok on linseed, speedibeet, spillers conditioning fibre or mollichaff condition, pink powder & he can also tolerate spillers slow release cubes, top spec cubes & am just trialling ERS pellets. He also has ad lib haylage. He's mega fussy as well & has a tiny appetite. I struggled with the breakfast thing for years but he will now eat it as long as I stop in the stable with him! I muck out around him to pass the time as he's really slow! Not sure what he thinks I'm up to if I'm not in the stable with him!
He won't eat tied on yard & can't feed in field as others are out. Can anyone feed him breakfast before you get there? Mine will eat his breakfast if I'm not there at all.

I'd love to feed him breakfast but it isn't practical as the yard opens at 6.45 and they are all turned out asap. I have tried to make him eat breakfast but if his pals are out and he is in he just cribs more and won't eat.

He was fed double on box rest when he was on poor quality hay and it's less than the recommended amount for his size for a horse in light work (2 scoops is approx 800g). He's been on the alfa a oil since June and seems to be okay on it so far...

Panic over, seems when the weather turned he tucked up a little. Weight taped him and he is still putting on rather than loosing anything so a rug change not a feed change was all that was required thankfully!
