As per title!

As Swallow isn't in foal (boo hoo!) she's hanging around not doing anything which seems a waste of a nice pony to me. I bought her last spring; admittedly unseen from a Horsemart ad as a 14.2 well built which needed a lot of tlc. I should have sent her back when she arrived if I'm honest as she's only 13.2 and a smidgeon of a thing, but she was such a sweet little thing and so poor, I didn't have the heart to! I have MUG written all over me, I know!

My plan had been to get her looking and feeling better, which she did pretty quickly and then get her in foal after which I planned to start her again (she was broken at 4 but only been used as a broodmare) and maybe do some light hacking too for a while. Obviously, as she is so small, Ten Ton Tessie here couldn't even sit on her, I'd break her to little pieces so what do I do with her now?
I think she could be a bit sharp for a child, a small lightweight teenager/ adult would be ideal; she's had a hard time in the past and doesn't trust easily, is very wary of men but is very good to handle. In spite of her conformation faults (over at the knee is the main one) she has done a lot of showing both as a youngster and as a riding pony broodmare with a lot of success, even county show wins, moves well too so is not a complete ugly duckling!
There's nobody around here that I could use to ride her either so I'm a bit stuck as to what to do. OH says I should sell her (I do have enough, I do see his point!

) and concentrate on the others but do you think anyone would be interested in an 8 year old 13.2 ish riding pony that needs starting again (through no fault of her own I might add)? I also would hate her to go from piller to post which is why I thought about loaning her, at least she would come back here.

Your thoughts please if you will.

I honestly haven't a clue to be honest! She's a typical 13.2 riding pony that you would see in a showring; probably a Section B type although she has Anglo Arab, Welsh and TB in her (she's by Small Land Maytino) I'm so out of touch of ponies but would think about the 8 stone mark.
This was her a fortnight ago -

Just looked at that and she ISN'T bum high, she was facing downhill!

Id sell her on, i think it would be difficult to find a loan home as there are so many ready broken, experienced horses up for loan at her hieght already that it isnt likely someone is going to want one in need of work.

That's been my way of thinking in the main; I can't see a child having the patience she will need; it's not like she can go off and do rallies or hunting too quickly is it? Of course, then it's a case of where to advertise, is it worth doing the H&H under £1000 or just go straight to Horsemart?

To be honest Pat, she's such a pretty thing, with decent breeding that I'd market her as a broodmare and sell her as such. If you did loan her out then and subsequently want her back it's possible the loanee might feel abit put out at having put work into her to re-break her then have to hand her back if you see what I mean?

I know exactly what you mean Beth; she was sold to me as a broodmare (already had two) and a project to start again. As I said, it's only her small size that is stopping me doing it myself - and having some fun with her!
No, I wouldn't have taken her off anyone, they would have had her until they had outgrown her (if a child); hope I'm not that cruel to someone although I know a lot of loaners can be!

Aw, I know you're not cruel!! Didn't mean it that way at all, sorry.

I suppose what she'd really need is a very confident small teenager to get her going again.
I keep looking at Luke and thinking I'm going to squish him when it's his turn to be backed!!

That would be nice, even light adult to do riding club stuff or something. I just want her to have a nice home where she can be cherished.

As has been mentioned, perhaps the Project Horses site would be a good starting point. She's similar to Jelly in as much as she's an older pony with a limited education, except atleast with her she has broodmare potential.
Breaking Jelly is not going well and so looks like she's back to her status as companion come equine knowitall!!

How about loaning out with a view to buy?

I always said I didn't want to sell Rhyn because he can be sharp and difficult, and because he's been through his fair share of homes in this life. So, loaned him out but now he's with a lovely family who adore him, I would be happy to sell him to them. I wouldn't have ever just advertised him though.
