get tendon and fetlock boots? I'm starting to jump my mare out at shows, hopefully in the future will be jumping up to about 1m/1m5.

She is currently ridden in Tri-zone brushing boots. I was wondering is there any need for the tendon boots? People say the horse feels the jump if they knock it; is this the only benefit of them? I don't want to waste the little money I have!

Also does anybody know of any decent brushing boots anyway?:P

Appologies on the lack of knowledge about boots - I've never had to use them before!
 
Tendon boots protect the rear of the front legs where the tendons run down the back, brushing boots are softer and protect the inside of front legs from the other front leg catching it.When the horse lands or takes off the hind legs can get close to the front ones and catch the tendons so tendon boots are used to protect them.(thats how I understand it anyway)Open fronted tendon boots allow the horse to feel a pole if it is knocked, brushing boots don't.

Would you personally get tendon boots?
 
All of mine have brushing boots on the flat, tendon & fetlock boots to show jump, and tough boots for XC.

So, three horses have three sets of boots each...

I think I'm learning that you can never have 1 of anything with a horse! My horse has 16 rugs... now she will have lots of boots too!
 
I would just because I'm paraniod about him hurting him self and he has some what special tendancies. They dont have to be that expensive but they offer much better protection to the back of the leg.
 
I use tendon boots for jumping too, as already said they offer more protection to the back of the leg in the case of knocks.
 
As explained above, tendon boots protect the tendons from the hind hooves striking them on landing after a jump - you can get both open and closed fronted ones, the open fronted tend to be more popular/easy to find and they are the ones that horses can feel themselves knocking a pole with.
I personally use tendon boots for jumping courses or anything "medium to big" in size because I do like them to have that bit of extra protection, so I would recommend them if you're going to be jumping a lot, as brushing boots won't offer much protection to the back of the leg at all. You can get quite cheap ones that do the job if you don't want to spend a lot, my original boots were Masta ones (around £15-£20 ish?) years ago & they've been used loads and are still going strong.
