I have a 14hh cob, on walk work right now but the feed ramains the same in all work except I might add an extra nut or two.

Half a Level Stubbs scoop of mollichqff original, handful of Saracen cool nuts and a handful of saracen cool mix in eve feed only to encourage him to eat Cortaflex which is on vet recommendation. He gets two feeds a day and not ad lib hay/haulage but nearly and he eats his straw bed also.
How does that sound?!

If it were my horse I'd swap it on to molasses free alternatives, decrease the hard feed and feed ad lib hay. Horses get their energy from forage for the most part, so if you can feed ad lib, I would, as its also better for the gut.

Ah, well as you're feeding sugary chaff, nuts and mix, and you said you were feeding nearly ad lib, and he was dropping weight just from walk work, I made the assumption that you weren't worried about weight ;). If you are, then I would certainly cut out those feeds and swap them for something healthier :).

I would be cutting out the nuts, mollichaff and mix and replacing them with something with much lower sugar and starch levels. Something such as HiFi Molasses free might be more suitable and cheaper than what you're currently feeding.

Unfortunately I'm not in a position to change feeds as it's all provided. He only gets about six nuts. But interesting to hear thoughts.

Pmsl! So why on earth have you posted a thread asking for feed advice? lol :p

Agree but will also say, I certainly can't see the point of feeding both mix and nuts. I don't really think that your YO (?) is a feed expert. Could you organise one of the feed companies to come to your yard with a weighbridge and advise on diet for all the horses?

Must be alone in wanting to know what's best. Can't ask to change without knowledge first. *skips off to read a book instead*
