Three weeks ago I was schooling the Appy, she was a nightmare, going backwards more than forwards (literally) and planting more than moving in any direction

I decided I must be a rubbish rider as when we got her three years ago she behaved perfectly when doing school work. Last week she was a bit better, tonight she was very very good, no going backwards, no planting and doing lovely smooth transitions, great circles and only once 'crabbing' between the markers. What made the difference? She has lost 21kg since mid May, she is a sensitive soul and I think she decided the saddle was tight, she became over sensitive to saddle fit following having problems in her neck, stemming from the atlas vertebrae. She will probably be better still when she looses the next 10kg, although still not sylph like

She would not look bad if she lost 3 times that, but I doubt if that is realistic.
So the problem may not be what you think it is, but something that can be fixed without too much problem.
