It seems the RSPCA (who I think do a fab job, perhaps not great with horses) get a terrible bashing on here and I just want to point out other ways you can find help for horses in distress if you don't get the help you want from the RSPCA.
For HORSES there is the British Horse Society. Do you know who your Welfare Officer is in your local area? If not, get to know them, find the number and USE IT.
