As above... Do people put horses out on short term loans?
YO's daughter has had to give her horse a year off, and she's trying to find something to take on loan for a year minimum. I dont anticipate her having much luck, Has anyone on here ever done it?

Yes my daughter's horse has gone out on loan for 2 years as she is off to uni. In two years time her course moves out of London to Hertfordshire so there's a good chance she will be able to keep the horse at livery nearby, and the girl who is loaning will be off to uni herself in 2 years.

My daughter is so glad she has loaned the horse rather than sold it as she is still very attached.

Someone at my yard has just taken a horse on a year's loan. The owner is looking to sell him but has agreed for him to be out on loan for a year first. The girl loaning him is thinking about buying him but hasn't formally agreed anything yet, and probably won't until nearer the end of her loan period

Yep, I had a mare on loan for a year. I also put my Welshy out on loan for a year at a time, so we would renew the contract every year if both me and the loaners were happy with everything. They had him for 2 years in the end (bought him in June).

Yes, friends of ours loaning for a couple of years until their youngster is old enough - and the people loaning the horse want it back then as the daughter will be back from uni to ride it again...so hopefully works for both of them

Yes, I have a horse on loan, we negotiated a price should I decide to buy him after that year is up. I have him for a year - and it's looking like I may well buy him

Yes I loaned my mare out whilst I was pregnant and my twins were young (I wasn't going to have the time to ride!! And I certainly wasn't going to sell!) She went out for 18 months.

Yes, I had a apony on loan for a year as the owner was working abroad on a contract and in the end she stayed for another year and i was given the option of keeping him for that extra year or passing him on to another loaner. I kept him of course!
