Do people not need sharers these days?

Given I’m currently horseless and would prefer to keep it that way for a while, I’ve been keeping an eye on my local FB pages for horses to ride/share once things relax a bit. Happy to do chores/contribute financially/cover everything if owner wants to go on holiday etc. so don’t think I’m asking too much!

But it seems there are much less ads now as opposed to pre-COVID. Are people not needing as much help now they have more time due to WFH?

It seems the only ads popping up are older horses only needing light hacks (which isn’t what I’m looking for) or people looking for actual slave labour (saw one the other day along the lines of ‘Need someone to look after my horse 3/4 days a week but you can’t ride’).

I did find something perfect for me but right before we were about to start an agreement horse did himself some damage meaning it’s off games for a good while.

Am I going to be forced to buy another or do you reckon there’ll be an influx once people start going back to work?

You should put a request on here on your area board, I have found riders and sharers by doing the same thing in the past, but as MP has said it might be that yards are not allowing too many people on yards at the moment but it's worth a try.

I'm sure things will pick up once lockdown ends. I wouldn't advertise a horse for sale, loan or share at the moment as the government guidance is still stay at home unless essential.

At my yard there is one longstanding sharer who is allowed to come up, but another owner has been told she is not allowed to advertise for a sharer at the moment. So I think people on livery are quite limited. WFH is probably also making a difference too. As we come out of lockdown and more yard relax restrictions more might come up?

It might also be worth putting a wanted ad out and selling yourself a bit?

Yard restrictions make sense, didn't think about that! I did have an ad up a couple of months back and got quite a lot of replies, but most people have filled the spot now. Guess I'll just keep looking and see what pops up.

I'm in the Cambs area FWIW.
