Might seem an odd question, but really dont have a clue if anyone would,or where to start looking!

Idealy I would love to buy R(5 year old) a pony, but he has had a handfull of "lessons" and dont want to buy a pony when he may well go off riding alltogether in a few months.....but feel RS lessons for a 5 year old are a little silly, there is nothing they can teach at his age/stage that I couldnt, and know my son would have a lot more fun plodding round lanes then in the school.

Cookies and wine for taking the time to read

Yes there are children on old and current yards that share horses. Old yard was DIY and people literally shared like an adult would, with the parents having all the responsibility on their days etc (advertising in local tack shops/free magazines etc is good for this).

On new yard its a riding school and some of the ponies are shared by children. As a normal share parents pay a financial contribution but horses are completley cared for by the grooms so they jut ride (pay about the same so seems like the better deal to me - ponies all very safe and hack/compete as well so not typical bored RS ponies - only used a max of 1 - 2 hrs a day, most days just 1/2 hr to an hour and on the sharers day they are rarely to never used!). On the sharers day they can do what they like, hack, go round the school, have the odd lesson etc, it works out really well. To find that you could possibly go to local riding schools or small riding schools in the area and ask if they offer something like this? Good luck finding something anyways

Yes, people do. The coloured pony in my sig has had a sharer in the past, and did all PC stuff with them. Sadly, they outgrew her, and she is too big for my daughter atm, so she is just standing in the field, as can't seem to find another sharer at the moment. Shame really, it's a real waste of a good pony.

I had a couple of people come & try her, but they weren't honest about their ability, and banged around on her back, and she didn't like it at all (tho she did nothing but put her ears back), so it wasn't a good plan to go ahead with them!

yes, they do. It was something i considered doing before, and would consider again if the need arose.

Best to look in local tackshops etc, or even better perhaps loan a small shettie and stick it on grass livery and find your own sharer? That way if he gets bored it can always go back or the sharer could take over the loan on their own (with owners agreement).

R adores animals and fusing over them(I'm not allowed to even feed the cat anymore,he wants to look after him

) so think he would really enjoy the care side as much(and probably mroe) then just riding.
At £15 for 30 mins a shettie would probably be cheaper then the lessons too,LOL!
