Any time or year a serious rider/loaner/seller is just that.
Serious.
I see it as a good thing as the bad weather, mud and dark etc doesn't put them off.
Although in the spring, summer, nicer weather you will get more interest, most are fair weather riders, unless they have been saving during the winter!
I would agree that serious loaners would be interested no matter what time of year, however, I have ended up wintering a loan horse only for the owner to take it back as soon as Spring arrived. I did have a loan agreement and kept to my side of looking after the horse impeccably and paying for everything but if the owner says they want the horse back a loaner hasn't really got a leg to stand on. I'm not saying this would happen in your case but some people may be put off for this reason.
I have just taken one as well so yes, I'm sure people will be! Perhaps not so much before christmas as expensive time of the year but more likely so in Jan, (still winter) x
I don't think you'd have as many people searching for a loan horse at this time of year as you would in the spring and summer, but serious loaners will be there! When I loaned a horse I took her on over the winter, she came with nothing (not even a headcollar!) but I was quite happy to buy her winter wardrobe and feed her up etc.
Anyone seriously looking would take a horse on at any time of the year surely?
In fact probably the best time for an owner to advertise, hopefully able to weedle out the summer joyriders
My horse went out on loan in December last year, her loaners are brilliant and the fact they were even looking at this time of year gave me a lot of confidence in them
Thanks everyone it's something that I would hate to do but with things as they are at home my two options are move sooner than expected with no driving license which will present problems as far as horse care goes depending on how close I can keep him or the heartbreaking possibility that I may have to loan him out for 6 months or so
I wouldn't loan out over the winter just to take him back when the weather was better, that would be an awful thing to do to someone although I do know unscrupulous people do things like that.
I don't want to loan him out at all if possible but if I have to move earlier than planned and can't get him somewhere within walking distance then I'll have to
