i have been debating bringin in the ponies this winter. for 3 reasons:

1 i think i bit more of a structured routine would help poppy settle even more and it would me that i would have good contact with her at least twice a day

2 when little tambo comes (shetland yearling) i have been told he needs some extra handling so it would also help him get into a routine and would get him used to being handled more regularly.

3 i really enjoy mucking out, gets me up out of bed, makes me actually do some real work

what do u think?? this is why i hav been asking about shavings

I always bring mine in over winter, even tho they all natives, I think they like the routine, and yes handling them helps. Especially with shetlands as they can get a little wild! The workout is great in the mornings and helps me lose weight!

I don't use any bedding as I have matting and they are all mucky little tinkers, but I used to use bedmax as they are quite chunky and don't blow around as much

Whatever works best for you! Before going for shavings consider Miscanthus, we are selling more and more of it, it rots down a lot quicker than shavings, and costs £1.25 less per bale. And no, I don't own the company!!!

Personally I think they're best out. Especially a yearling who IMO should be out playing in the field. But obviously its up to you, if your prioroties are handling / routine etc. then do it.

The other type of bedding which i used at a friends yard, which is fantastic and mega absorbant is bio bed, its made from flax, i think, i was well impressed, really easy to muck out and lasts and lasts...
