Cos I'm beginning too.
Many years ago, I had my soul mate - a firey chestnut Welsh Cob that was a RS pony that had been bought and sold more than any other -- and returned as he was 'unridable' until my darling Dad bought him for me. I loved that cob more than I probably should have and when I had to have him put to sleep (afer 7 years with me) I cried continually for 3 days. I still miss him.
I've had many horses since him, some better than others, all but one very nice - but none measured up to him. If I'm honest they didn't even come close much 'better' horses, most of them but not 'perfect for me'.
Then last summer I started my search for a new fella, I knew that my dressage 'star' was coming to the end of his career and that I needed a new 'riding horse' (Not a riding horse, more a horse to ride iyswim) I had set my sights on a cob - either show or traditional - didn't really care which. I travelled the country from Kent to carlisle, Harrogate to Swansea, and found 2 (One was withdrawn from sale and the other failed the vet) and I was kinda getting disheartened.
Then, I was asked to judge at a show, something I do from time to time, nd a coloured horse entered the ring... he was such a gorgeous baby I just was smitten... He had great confo. and altho could have done with a bit more top, and took the mickey out of his rider a bit, he was just my type... When he came out of the line he went straight for my pocket and asked for his ears to be stroked...
I placed him first - although the company he was in wasn't great
3 weeks later I saw a 'similar' horse advertised on horse Quest... it was him. I bought him on the first visit. Since that day, it's been like owning my old Welshy again... sometimes, despite them looking nothing a like, it's like owning my old man again... They are the same person, the more time I spend with M the more I'm convinced it's V. and he came to find me at that show.
I know I'm mad but maybe, just maybe, our ponies don't wait for us but come back to find us again...
