Do you change your horses rugs?

I tend to leave turnout rugs on during the week at this time of year to save me a bit of time in the mornings, unless of course they are too hot/cold/wet underneath etc. Like most people have said, modern day rugs are so good and comfortable, I really don't see the point of making extra work for yourself.
I do however always move their rugs twice a day by undoing leg straps and cross surcingles and moving them right up their necks, smoothing their manes if they are in combo's and then back into place. Find the best way to dry a rained on rug is on the horse and they always come in nice and toasty underneath them it seems a shame to then put them in a cold stable rug and vise versa in the mornings. Each to their own though and if I've ridden late afternoon then leave them in for the night, I'll stick stable rugs on.

I normally changes rugs when they come in at night to their stable rugs, then back into their TO's in the morning. The only time i normally leave a TO rug on over night is if they come in wet as i think they dry much quicker and better. Think theres nothing worse then putting a cold wet rug on my horse.

Nope I don't change mine daily - can't see the point of taking off a nice warm rug to put on a cold one and then have to do it all over again in the morning. I change them though if there's a change in the weather or if they're soaked through.

I find the turnouts are less likley to rub than the stable rugs anyway as they tend to have a shiny lining.

I do rug according to the weather though. Drives me nuts when some people leave their horse in the same rug when its +10 and -8!

Mine wears her turnout overnight too - but I am religious about taking it off everyday to check her and make sure it is comfortable. Providing she is not wet underneath keeping it on a warm horse is the best way of drying a rug - unless you are one of those lucky people with a heated rug room

Depends what im working, If i am working my set of shifts then I leave her TO on.

If I am not I normally put a stable rug/ fleece on. My stables are very warm so wouldnt leave full neck TO on in the stable.

Toffee normally gets a layer removed or gained as and when needed(on full turnout). I try and get her rugs off a couple of times a week to monitor her and give her a quick groom.

Jake doesnt have a rug and isnt groomed unless needed for work which is once a week

This is me! I think i have slight OCD with regards to rugs and the weather changes so mcuh would hate for her to be in anything and be uncomfortable. Plus she lies down every night and rugs do move, so need moving to make her feel more comfortable.

The same, that way he stays warm and self dries his rug if its wet

Mine live out so unless the weather changes a lot, the rugged one keeps the rug on. I adjust if needed, check temp and peer underneath to check for problems, and take off and good groom at the weekend.

I add/remove rugs according to weather but this winter I didnt have a heavyweight stable rug so steed has been staying in his TO in his stable to save £70+

This exactly. Last rug I bought said dual purpose on the tag. Also means my horses don't smell of wee!

I change over rugs every day, if it is warm, I will leave him in the stable "naked" for a shirt while so he can itch etc, I then groom him and pop his stable rug on. I sm sure it stems back to PC days and canvas NZ rugs which were do badly fitted, we were advised to lift and re-settle them twice a day!! Even when he is out 24/7 over the summer period and it is cold and wet, I will still lift his rugs!!! I also wipe down the chest piece of the rug to clean it and thus avoid rug rubs

Mine are naked if they're in. Mostly they're out so only get changed when the weather requires or when ridden - they get changed / taken off every couple of days at least, but not necessarily every night. Darach's naked out so his never gets changed When it's really cold or they've been clipped lately, it depends on which rug seems most appropriate - a dry turnout of an appropriate weight may be left on if it's going to be a push for time in the morning, or a stable rug/fleece if the turnout is wet / horse is still drying off after work / whatever reason...

I look after 14 minis/ponies/donkeys and 2 retired horses plus 3 riding horses (incl mine) and the stabled oned are swapped from t-o's to stables daily, the minis that live out have there rugs taken off when weather is dry and the re rugged at night, oldies get the same! Takes so much time but well worth it when they bomb round like idiots when naked!!
