Do you ever feel you don't have the time?

I had a week off work last week so was able to ride a lot more - the ginger one was a completely different boy, raring to go and full of it. It made me feel awful that working a mental job means I can't spend as much time with him as he apparently needs. I know some of you might say they don't mind spending time chilling in the field but mine seemed to be telling me last week that he loved doing more.

Now I'm wondering whether to put him for share.... Does anyone else feel they're letting their horse down? What have you done to help the situation?

I'm actually putting off owning a horse because I know I won't have the time... I only work a "normal" boring job, but the other things I now do outside of work with my boyfriend very much limit my time available for horsey things. I could afford my own on DIY livery in a few years' time, but I'm putting it off until I can afford part or full livery so I can spend all my time riding (I'm not fussed about the rest of it - spent too many years working as a groom :p )

Sharing is always a good option if you can find someone. I've shared a fair few horses (and still ride and look after one once a week for his time-tied owner) and it's always worked well as long as there has been no money changing hands! I personally wouldn't like someone else to be sharing my horse, but then I am fussy...

I suppose the other option is to be as time-efficient as you can. Fill haynets at the weekend of the week, make feeds etc... even if it only frees up half an hour, that can be 20 minutes stretching legs under saddle, which might help.

I keep my horse on full livery and only get to ride on the weekends. he has a sharer and i'm considering getting another.

I suppose this is pretty selfish but I can't imagine my life without a horse and this way means I can have one.

I feel like I'm letting him down all the time, but he's happy I think so you just have to get on with it I guess. Life is full of sacrifices and, I'm guessing, like me, your mental job gives you the money to keep your horse?

Unless you're exceptionally lucky, it's either time and no money or no time but some money, that's the way with these things isn't it!

Thanks S its certainly a good idea to make up feeds in advance - luckily he likes to live out unless the weather is awful so no mucking out saves time.

M - sadly its mental but not so well paid, so full livery may be out of the question for the time being. Although I do use the YO's servces at least one day a week.

I've drawn up the share advert - eeep! Anyone want to share a slightly hyper veteran eventer....?
