I had to give up my pony in a million last year because she was starting to let me know I was too heavy and I was struggling to keep my weight down in a healthy way.

I haven't enjoyed riding in the same way since and especially the way things are going at the moment I'm wondering if it's worth beating myself up and carrying on at all. I'm constantly questioning my ability to ride and over thinking the whole thing.

I know this is self indulgent but it's been 8 months now and I don't feel any better

Have you got another horse to ride now? If you have a new horse 8 months isn't long and maybe the bond isn't quite there yet, but it will happen.

I still think about the ponies I used to ride and I still wish I could go back and have one more ride or just find out where they are now. Of course you will always regret selling her but eventually the enjoyment of riding will return and the regret will be overcome by treasured memories of your old pony.

keep at it hun, I was devastated when my first pony went I almost gave up riding all together but it gets better, I got a new horse Tazz, who I wasn't sure about to begin with but after a while we got used to eachother and did really well, she was my first BSJA horse and has thought me loads, I've had her ten years now and I'm so glad I didn't give up.

You absolutely must keep at it. Just eat healthly and keep riding, you will be fine, you will really regret it later if you give up! There will be another great horse out there for you and you will have that relationship again!

I'm riding for other people at the moment but I'm about to go into my final year at uni so can't afford a horse at the moment (managed 2 years with uni but it's almost crippled me finacially..I had her on loan).

I can't put my finger on why I'm not enjoying it....I think part of it is because I'm riding for someone else I feel like I should be 'good' and don't want to ruin their horse so I'm over thinking it and taking the fun out of it.....where as with her I just got on and it felt 'right'...even though she was a bit loopy.

I do feel heavy (have put on weight due to being home on home cooked food/lack of work and money for gym and lack of exercise) but I'm riding big horses at the moment so it doesn't matter...I look tiny on them!

Doesn't help that I saw her recently and she looks nothing like the pony I gave up in a bad way.

Not all people keep their horses the same, so if she just looks a bit dirty or scruffy, then I wouldn't worry, they are often happier that way, but if you think she is being ill treated or neglected then you need to report her.

Once you get back to uni you will feel better and lose some weight. Stuff happens and being a teen can be hard, but circumstances and feelings change all the time, try to keep healthy and maybe leave the horses until you finish uni. Good luck x
