...Where you seem to meet everything in one go?

Took my horse for a hack today on a usually quiet route. Well it wasn't quiet today! I met a bin lorry, then a tractor with muck spreader, then a country bus, then a tractor with trailer then a milk tanker and then a lorry full of calor gas bottles

Just as we were nearing home a bright red helicopter than had been flying around decided to land in the field next to the road, was just about to touch down and then flew off again, what was that all about??
She has never seen a helicopter before, let alone one so close but bless her she just stood still and watched. I stood her on a grass verge incase she decided to deck me I had a soft landing and she was more interested in trying to munch the grass

Then going through the village we meet the mobile library which is actually quite large!

Good job my horse is sensible in traffic, I'm glad I wasn't out in company with some of the horses that can be silly. (As you can imagine I was very proud of her, she's very good for a 6yo :D)

The only "normal" traffic we met was 3 cars, a motorbike and a pedestrian with a double buggy.

To top it off driving home I was stuck behind cows for 20 minutes.

I hope tomorrows hack will be quieter!

On a side note I think I'm going to email the council regarding the bin lorry and the country bus company because they are always so courteous and patient with horses. :)

Yes had one of those the other day! With my nervous rider husband riding our four year old.......

We met, a very big tractor moving large bales of haylage, jacob sheep with big horns running round their field like nutters, an outdoor jazz concert, a hot air balloon landing in a nearby field, a marquee with a DJ and a hog roast at the pub, and then a helicopter taking off!

Bless her she was an angel, didn't react to any of it apart from the helicopter and then all she did was start a bit when the rotors started and get a bit joggy as we passed it (very close, just a low hedge between us and it). Was soooooooo proud of her, I nearly cried! Was pretty proud of hubby not having a melt down too, he didn't panic or get off and just rode quietly.

Wow what a fab horse you have! 6yo and being good through all that!

Ive never had a hack with anything like that, but we do occasionally get those rides where you meet everything on the same day (though by everything I mean like another horse, a few people/bikes, a bus, normal things Lol)

Hee hee yes I've had those hacks too where just everything seems to be going on! I've ridden through the village not realising the fete was on and there were flags, marques, people everywhere, steam rollers and steam engines, you name it it was
there! To top it off there were a load of builders fixing a roof, banging and crashing around with plastic and wot not THEN the church bells went off! Horse was fine, I nearly had a bloody heart attack!

On the topic of bin men, ours are really courteous as well. If they come by on a narrow lane they crawl along miles behind the horse and wait untill a suitable pull in can be found to let them pass. They are very good with horses :).

Oops just read it back through and sorry for all the grammar mistakes before the grammar police get me! ;)

KK - that is very impressive for a 4yo!!

Ruby - she is brilliant to hack just very opinionated when it comes to dressage ;)

Firewell - the village fete is held in the field next to Lace, just a bit of post and rail between them, I offered her for pin the tail on the donkey and/or bucking rodeo but no-one took me up on that idea :p

As soon as the bin men saw me they stopped, turned off the engine and waited for me to get well passed before starting the ending again, I was very impressed.

She has been a bit of a hacking superstar to be honest. She babysits all the older horses out hacking, giving them leads past scary stuff, even going back several times to escort them past or standing between them and the evil killer tractor! She hardly bothers about anything, except puddles! Can't quite believe how good she is really, and it is such a relief as hubby can be quite nervous especially hacking out (he's not novicey he's very capable but nervous).

That's lovely that they're growing in confidence together!!

I remember when Lacey was 4 she would often have to nanny older horses past "scary" things such as bikes and motorbikes.

Life is so much easier when they have a sensible brain :D

Thankfully my boy is ok with helicopters and jets as we live about 1/4 mile off the end of a naval air station runway - but it does mean low flying over the sand school!!

Traffic is ok too , infact the only thing ours are really funny about is buckets hanging on gates containing licks for calves and pampas grass especially when it's dying and drops across the path - my boy is terrified - it defies logic really?

Just as long as she stays sensible out and about and doesn't turn into a nightmare at 5!

Can't say she is sensible all the time, she can be a bit of a handful on the ground but I can live with that if she is sensible under saddle. I think standing still and not managing to hook herself up/fall over her own feet/tread on stuff/untie herself etc etc will come in time as she gets a little older and a little less adhd........
