Do you ever wish you had CCTV in your stables?

A large number of our stables all have CCTV (or if not, they all have sound alarms) and it's amazing watching them during the night. What's good, is that you get to know their habits, i.e. when they eat their hay, when they lay down, the noises they make, etc. etc. Each of them seem to be different, one eats all her hay immediately, another one will pick and eat, then sleep for a while, then go back to her hay, etc.etc. One will lay down as soon as all the lights go out, another stands asleep and nearly always looks as if she's about to fall over - and so on. The sounds they make are a bit worrying initially, but it's so helpful to get used to their sounds and what they do, especially if you think one of them doesn't seem well, you can pick up on it before they start rolling about with colic or such like. Must admit, they pay for themselves when it's foaling time.

I have CCTV in my stables and yard which is linked to the tvs in my house my husband fitted them for me 4 years ago, my husband laughs as they are only 15 steps from our front door , i love watching it instead of the tv , also last thing at night and 1st thing in the morning ,

my horse always has a sleep from 11.15pm until around midnight , then she has her midnight snack lol

We will be installing wireless cameras which will be accessible from your computer anywhere in the world. Just looking into systems if anyone has any recommendations?

interested how this will work what are your proposals?

I believe Twemlow (AI services) have this for their visiting Stallions?

When my horse was due to foal, I spent nearly 4 weeks sleeping on straw bales in a spare stable watching her, it was sooo very interesting. There we had a TV & security monitor from B&Q wired up leading back to the stable, with a red light bulb in the foaling box. I'm sure things have moved on a bit since then, but I still look back to my stable nights as being fun, not least because I eventually met my (now) riding horse! I'd just fallen asleep and my mum rang to say goodnight, woke up and I had missed her waters breaking!

I'm sure if you asked in breeding, they would also have some suggestions.

OH has installed a system like this for us, a friend and our vet  He says Maplin do some good starter kits (from £300) but its the clever thing he does with dyndns that gets it up on the web through a secure, password protected portal. We often watch the boys on my laptop rather than the tv :o he can also get them through an app he did for iphone. Its not cheap but well worth it as we live 10 mins drive from the yard
