To horses you viewed but didn't buy?

I often wonder (pointlessly, I suppose) what happened to a nice mare I viewed last summer. On paper she was exactly what I was looking for, and when I got there I thought she was lovely. Unfortunately, she had somewhat flat feet and weak heels, and the main box my new horse had to tick was that it had to have very good feet, after the foot problems my last two horses have had. So I didn't even sit on her.

I don't regret it as such, the horse I did buy is absolutely super, but if I hadn't had major feet problems with my other horses which have made me a bit paranoid, I expect I would have bought the other horse I viewed first.

I wonder how we'd be doing if I had bought her. I also wonder if someone else bought her and if she's doing well or is a disaster. Or if the woman who owned her managed to sell her at all. I hope she's not doing the rounds between dealers.

Stupid ponderings really, because there is no way of knowing, and if I could find out about her and the odd other near-purchase of the past, I wouldn't be trying to buy them or anything. I'm just curious about the ones I could have imagined being my horse, but had to walk away.

Does anyone else do this? Do you have a "one that got away"?

i liked a nice youngster i saw advertised lat year and ummed and aahed and dropped major hints to OH until he said for gods sake give them a ring...

I had a little cob vetted. He'd been mistreated and looked quite poor but had been bought by a reputable dealer and seemed to be on his way to better health. I was prepared to overlook his skin condition, his weight, his nerves, etc. but he trotted up lame and she said it'd been because she hadn't had him trimmed in about two months...
In the end I decided against having him because it made me distrust the owner... if you know a pony is being vetted and his feet have been left that long, why wouldn't you get them done?

But it was such a hard decision and I often wonder where he is now. I hope he went somewhere lovely because he was so gorgeous!

There were lots of others too that I often wonder about.

We looked at a sweet QH filly - had just had a tiny bit of training but was dead safe for me and OH to ride in an open field (owners didn't have a school). Sadly we turned her down cos she had a huge splint and lots of other signs of basic neglect - feet were terrible, had a girth gall, fly bites, scar from a wound that hadn't been treated as a yearling. Very hard decision but she'd never have passed the vet. Her owner realised she probably wouldn't get much money for her but said she was going to ride the filly herself. Well we've seen the woman's husband (and lots of other horses they've bred) at shows since but never the filly, perhaps they're breeding from her, hope so...

I went to see a lovely grey 14.1 3 times, absolutely fell in love with her, when the time came for her to be vetted, she failed as was slightly lame. We said we didnt want her yet but to give us a ring and first refusal once she was sound. We never heard back from them until I saw them at a show some time later and was told she was sold to a boy who had rode 4 times, but loved her. I was on the pony I owned at the time but was having problems with which is why I was looking for a new one, after Gem failing the vet Isaid I wanted to leave it for a while when they didnt ring back. I beat the girl on both her horses who had Gem, so glad I stuck in with my naughty pony after all.
