Do you feed linseed all year round?

I do, yes. It's good for joints (my horse is arthritic) and it has a high oil content (good for ESPM type conditions... my horse is a shiverer). I feed a bit less at the time of year though as he's such a good doer he doesn't need so much oil!

Yep, i do, both for joints and just the beautiful coats my two get from it. My gelding has dapples to die for atm and my mares coat is the richest mahogany brown its ever been.

I do now and my boy looks fabulous on it... My vet popped in the other day and kept exclaiming at how good he looked and what a wonderful summer coat he has :)... he does look good IMO :) also good for their feet :)

Aww that's lovely :)

How much do you feed per day? My mare is on 1 cup at the moment.

I don't bother as they are out 24/7 at the moment.

When the old boy chooses to start coming in (probably August) he will start with the linseed again.

The omega oils are adequate in the grass at this time of year. If they were on restricted grazing I would be feeding linseed and vitamin e.

My boy (17.1hh CB) is on a slightly heaped mugfull a day so not very much at all :) I have been using the same bag for 2.5 months and there is still loads left! He is on restricted grazing as he is V V sensitive to the grass... especially for such a big gulumpfa!! ;)

I am feeding half winter ration of Linseed meal, with Steady up magnesium and Laminator and Fast Fibre, he does not get fed every day, maybe every second day. Not in work [once a week]. A tiny bit overweight, and coat is excellent. Feet have never been better [barefoot] and he is not itchy [which was always the case.]

Yes but I Feed mainly for condition so in the summer months i Tend to cut right back so it still benefits coat and hooves but she keeps condition because of the grass.

I'm never, ever going to stop feeding Linseed. They look amazing on it. I've been feeding it 5 months & now my TB's with crappy feet who I used to have to get shod every 4 weeks are easily going 8 weeks. They only get a small mugful in the summer, going back into winter this will be doubled :)

Charnwood Milling online or see if a local merchant supplies from Charnwood. A kg lasts my horses for the winter - at the most I use 2kg a year. For gut muculage, coat supplement, joint supplement, hoof moisture balancer.....it's cheap!

I ordered a sack on Saturday evening via internet, bearing in mind we have just had a 4 day weekend, it arrived on Wednesday morning, which I thought was excellent service, especially as it was my first order from them.

I am hoping it will give my rather lean new project youngster a bit of a boost. He is having a coffee mug each end of the day. He has never been fed before but tucked into the linseed mixed with a little speedibeet well.

What are the benefits of linseed? My horse is arthritic and on supplease gold, devils relief, rose hips for joints and yea sacc for digestion.
Also has pelleted balanced with handful of light chaff and fast fibre to mix the supplements in.
Looking to reduce the amount of supplements and the balancer so want stuff that will help joints and digestion in as few supplements as possible

Yes its upped in the winter and goes down to a little dose in the summer just for general coat shine and condition of skin and joints :)

She gets one scoop per feed in summer and two scoops per feed in winter :)

Linseed supplies omega 3 and 6 in the same ratio as good grass - so you get the magic of Dr Green without the unpredictable sugar levels. That is the joint and coat benefit. It is a polar lipid - so it maintains the hoof moisture balance. It also becomes sloppy and moist in the gut - so it is good for older horses, those prone to choke and also helps ulcer prone horses
