And would you take more than one horse without any help?

I always like to have someone there but do think some day I might have to go alone or not go at all if I can't find someone to help. OH is convinced it is irresponsible to go alone...

Ive just started going on my own, but only because i trust my horse not to do anything stupid whilst i faff around in a flap! I wouldn't take any of my others on my own and im always a bit on edge if i know i dont have back up! Probs wouldn't take two on my own though.

Well, I take my daughter...so this doesn't really apply to me.
But I would say...I can see your OH has genuine concerns. I am sure if you contacted your local PC / RC you would be able to find someone to come with you. If you just offered a really nice lunch & maybe a bottle of wine/other...then there would be someone who would love to come and help at an affliated event.
It would be much better to have someone with you, if at all possible.

Yes, I always go eventing on my own. To be honest as I keep my horses on my own, I think I would be more in a pickle if something happened here as no-one would probably miss me for days!! At least at an event I feel that I am surrounded by hundreds of horsey people who would make sure my horse was safe if anything untoward were to happen to me. I do ensure that I have emergency contact numbers in the lorry.

Yep,all on my little own(most times).Ive always preffered doing my own thing ,arriving&leaving when i want. Its nice to have help at times tho, makes me realize how much i do at events alone!!! I norm always bump into someone i know at events as everyone is so friendly!! I lie,my dog always comes with me and hes great company,no answering back or asking" r we there yet" and "wat time can we go home"!!!! Plus he LOVES my singing in the car!!

Yes, and I have a routine that is severely disrupted if anyone comes with me - I will always forget something

If there isn't anyone there I know then I let the organiser know.

No.
Dr or Sj I will go on my own but not eventing.
It does make things awkward trying to enter events when I know I'll have help but I really prefer to have help/company and the reassurance that if anything happened to me then I'd have someone to drive my horse back home for me.
Plus eventing is a hobby for me so it's a fun day out and I like to share the ups and downs with either my OH or a friend, oh and I get to have someone videoing most of the day so I can watch it over and over again at home!

I often go by myself which I don't mind but I would only ever take one horse and I always tell the secretary that I'm alone (some take details and others couldn't care!). I don't mind the lack of company as I'm quite quiet on competition days but I do find the driving difficult especially if it's a long drive and I've had an early start.

QR- i generally always go on my own. actually annoys me sometimes if i have someone with me- unless they are a good groom they just get in the way! i just make sure i have lots of time for course walking and tacking up etc as need to get both self and horse ready. i always write it on my form too that i'll be on my own.
its pretty easy really as the stewards are usually very helpful and i find the fences are ok for the SJ as they have a cross and an upright so not like going BSJA on your own- now that i hate doing!
would only take one horse though....

yes frequently, not out of choice because I have too, its either that or not event. In the past when I had two horses competing I even took and coped .

It is really not that difficult, and eventing is so friendly you always get to know those parked next to you.

Have been bsja too by myself, fine again but not nearly as friendly ( sorry sj I am sure the h@h ones are )

Although this year mostly I have finally managed to persuade a friend to take up eventing so I have an eventing buddy

I haven't yet, but I may have to next month as the event I've entered is a Fri and I'm not sure if Mr FigJam can/will take the day off work. Feel too guilty asking other people to get up at silly o'clock and hang around all day!

So will just need to be super organised and remember to leave my details with entry sec on the day if needs be.

Sometimes i do,
but if going on long trip i do prefer to have company, as last year i managed to knock myself in lorry park!! So now my OH will do long trips with me if i can't get any horsey mates to come.

I pretty much always travel there alone, but OH meets me there just before dressage to lend a (unhorsy) hand and give moral support. He helps with buckets of water, holds studs etc but other than that I do it all myself. I'd never take two unless I had some decent 'horsy' help though.

I go on my own alot as I work shifts and tend to have more days off in the week. I take one horse but I would take two if I had two!! Its really not a problem. I think its just a case of thinking about "worse case scenario". I ensure that my contact numbers on the entry form includes both my husband and a friend who events, and I am sure that between them they could pick up the lorry and get the horse home. There are so many horsey people at an event, I hope in the event of serious injury to me, that someone would untack my horse and keep an eye on him until he could be picked up. Or until a friend could pick him up with their own transport. If I was at an event and there was a request for someone to take the horse home, or to look after it during the event, then I would haev no problem with doing that. I would hope someone would help!

As for the actual tacking up/ getting ready, I don't faff, so its not a problem. In fact tomorrow I am doing Mattingley and my times are really close together and I am last to go, so I can imagine it'll be quite a rush, but I will have everything ready and be prepared for it. I think I have 30 mins between each section - so that is warm up for dressage, do test, back to lorry, change saddle, add boots, already warmed up so a couple of fences and in for SJ, back to lorry, quick drink, jacket off, back protector on, get on and go! In fact, I might even be early!!!
I find it runs much smoother if I am on my own, as there is no one in the way and no one else to rely on to do anything. Having said that, I do also like going with friends, sometimes 3 of us go together, all competing, or a friend will come to help, but I find its harder in some ways as I have to mentally prepare, get horse ready and chat too. Although some friends are great grooms, so that does help.
