As above?

OH has mentioned a couple of times about buying some sort of campervan/motorhome for short breaks - I think it's so he doesn't have to leave his beloved doggie at home

I have come up with the brilliant idea that a horsebox would more than fit the bill

we would have the same facilities and also space so he could take his motorbike with us when we go away so we can get about easily etc. And I could use it for my pony too..

Can you think of any Pros and Cons to this? What would I be looking for in a horsebox that you would normally have in a motorhome, thinking along the lines of hooking up to electric etc?? I don't 'do' camping so how much will I be slumming it?

Cheers for any replies.

If you get a nice one, not at all, you should get one with 'luxury living' i.e cooker, shower, toilet, electric hookup, seats, heating.
What sort of budget are you on? As this will probably determine what kind of living you can get

Horseboxes tend to be heavy - have to be in order to have the strength to carry a horse so can be a bit expensive fuel wise. Also a bit more restricted as far as sitting/sleeping space than even some of the more basic motorhomes. We've got electric hook up, leisure battery, gas, shower and loo in our lorry (which cost less than £20k plus about another £2k to upgrade to shower etc) so it is possible, but I would think if your prime need is for a bit of luxury I would go for a motorhome and consider towing a trailer behind it for bike/horse. We're actually considering swapping our lorry for that combination and our prime need is 2/3 day shows at venues with not many facilities!

You might find that most camp sites won't accept a lorry on their grounds. Good idea about taking motorbike with you tho! You could always buy a large awning/gazibo to put up outside to give you more living space.

Great info thanks

So a motorhome could tow a trailer? That's interesting... we already have a IW505... will investigate more

Let me know what motorhomes could do this if you have the info?

Never thought about being turned away from the camping site if in the lorry - would have to check that out too

Thanks again.

Not quite but had a day to spare between classes at Hickstead couple of years back and we took the lorry to the beach for the day. Did struggle to find a car park that didn't have a height limit on it but eventually found one. If you were parking up and staying put somewhere and had the motorbike then prob okay but would be a pain driving round different sites or places in a lorry.

Yes - I love my truck for just that purpose! I went to the Horse of the Year in mine - in Hastings New Zealand, empty of horses, it was as economical as taking the car and I had no accomodation fees at motels to pay. It's only a small truck - holds three horses but had been partly converted to accomodation. I finished it off by building in a bed and shelves, fitted it with a sink and a water supply. It was really cosy. A friend slept in the Luton area. The site had showers and toilets so didn't worry that they are not in built, however will definately be electrified for next time even if it is just a long lead to the power source.

Why would you be turned away from a camping site for being in a lorry - surely it would be no different than one of those big camper buses?
