do you have a routine??

NOPE

I am anti routine, as such a dufus and scatter brain :D

Luckily I know not to get a horse who needs routine, and my 3 are okay without one, they just see me and think food :)

I did make the mistake of getting a routined horse, but 'fessed up to my mistake, and rehomed him for nowt in a Comp yard, and he is thriving off it lol!

Everything gets done, eventualy, and I have 3 healthy and very fit/happy neds :D
 
horse has a routine so I try to work around it as much as I can.
assuming im working it's usually:
8am fed and turned out
3pm brought in, groomed, haynet
4pm fed haynet
5.30-ish ride (depends on what time I finish work)
6.30-ish haynet for overnight

home, make dinner for the OH, get stuff ready for work and bed.
how exciting :p
 
Not really. My horse lives on fresh air (and is still a bit fat) I couldn't get to her in the morning if I tried, so I see her every evening at about 6.30pm most days I check she is ok, groom her, sort out any issues. The days I am off or weekends I ride. She's only in light work because of pedal bone fracture recovery so it's not intense atm. Next year will be different fingers crossed!
 
My boy has a routine now he's on full livery, but even then, things change and he doesnt' really care. He's been used to not being on a strick routine, and its more that things get done in a routine order than at set times of the day. Of course feeding is the same times unless it cannot be helped. x
 
We have a routine give or take an hour or so each time but only when it comes to feed and turn out etc. The riding changes daily depending on circumstances! My boy doesn't seem to mind or notice as long as he gets everything he needs at some point he is happy x
 
i meant more like the order of things you do, mine is:

morning

get out of car
go to shed
make feed and pick up polos if have run out
put feed down and put on sun cream then let him eat
whilst he's eating put on fly spray
when he's finished feed he gets 2 polos
put bucket back
go home

evening

get out of car
get stuff from shed
ride or lunge him
take stuff back to shed
make up feed
give him feed
when finished feed he gets 2 polos
check water
put stuff back
go home

dad normally does mucking out while i faf around
 
I have 4 girls all out at moment so summer routine is - get up at 6

6:20 am arrive take headcollars to field and bring in whatever I will be riding and Lottie (needs daily pain relief in feed)
6:30 am tack up B or S unrug Lottie, quick brush over and cuddle
6:45 ride for half hour
7:15 finish riding untack and feed B or S and Lottie
7:30 Turn out, check other horses who will come to gate to greet Lottie
7:45 go home
7:55 Arrive home, take mad excited dogs for a short walk, feed dogs, change for work.

Pm after work rug up anything needing it and check the others (sharer may do this some days)

Winter routine is a bit different - get up at 5:30
6:00 Arrive, turn out 2 girls (If they are all having brekkie then feed, start mucking out round them and then turn out 2)
6:10 Muck out fill haynets/water
6:50 Tack up B or S (takes longer in winter, more rugs to take off!)
7:00 Ride for half hour
7:30 untack rug up and turn out the remaining 2
7:45 final stable check for poop and tie up nets in stables which will not be used during day, empty poop
7:50 Go home
8:00 Arrive home drag protesting cold dogs to kennel with brekkie, throw on work clothes and snow plough to work.

Pm arrive from work, pull beds down, tie up remaining nets - 5 mins
Make feeds and distribute in stables - 5 mins
Fetch girls in (2 trips to field) - 20 mins
Kiss goodnight

OH walks dogs some evenings as he works shorter hours in winter!
 
Winter:
7.30am - YO hays and feeds
8.30am - I muck out, put her in the arena for a legstretch swap her rugs over.
9.00am - Work
6pm - Arrive at yard, put her bed down, do her hay and feed for that night and the morning. Exercise her feed her go home by 8ish.

Summer -
9am - YO turns out
6pm- I arrive, sort stable, bring in exercise, feed, go home for 8ish :D
 
Yes I share chores with other horse owner in my field depending on my shifts.
Early week she does mornings
So 3.45pm get to yard, get headcollar and carott, catch horse, bring in groom and ride, get back, untack, make feeds. Take horse plus feeds down to field. Feed both horses put magnetic boots on mine put rug on other. Poo pick, gather up buckets, rinse out put back in feed room, look feed room and get back in car.

Late week I do them in morning.
7am get to yard,get feeds, walk to field, feed both, take rug of other horse, take magnetic boots off mine, poo pick, bring in and groom and tack up, ride by 8am back by 9am untack, turnout and put on muzzle. Home quick shower and off to work :(.

I have to stick to a strict routine or not enough time in the day :rolleyes:
 
In the summer when madam is out 24/7 she doesn't have a routine.

In the winter when she is stabled she has a routine and thrives off it.
Things like riding times change depending on when I have study leave, free evenings etc.
Feeding and turnout times are kept the same.

You seem to be very specific with your Polo quota!!! I ate the last 4 in the packet today before my horse had any, he was too slow eating his post ride nuts!!!
 
Fortunately I don't work and have all day to do things.

Every day I wake up and think "I really must start some sort of routine" and do I? oh No.

Sometimes things go as planned, other times not so.

Take today, I had intended (operative word there is intended) to do a bit of work with the babies, and lunge a couple of other horses before I mucked out.

Did I? Oh no, instead I spent 2 hours stuck under a horse who in the middle of a brainfart decided to climb through a fence for no apparent reason and get well and truly stuck. I got to her and she promptly got up and threw herself down on top of me. So, there we sat, her on my lap and no bloody phone! and sat, and sat, until she decided she was fed up and got up doing something nasty to my arm. So, plans went out of the window and I still haven't mucked out yet, I now a fence to mend which takes priority over other stuff (except caffeine) and it could fun as my right arm is completely numb, how does one wield a hammer with a numb arm:confused:

So, routine...ummm, no, things get done as and when, depending on what disaster/distraction happens that day.
 
My lot have a routine even though they are out 24/7

Horses kept at home
7.15 make up breakfasts for the 2 big boys
wait for livery friend B to arrive
go down to field , picking up one cake of hay ( to be shared between big boys , and the 2 shets ( mean i know but they all think they are getting something and the shets are like barrage balloons )
apply fly spray whilst boys are eating , share out meagre hay ration
pooh pick

evening after work
bring in big boys
groom and ride
put in stables and feed once cooled off
turn out
divvy out another single cake of hay
kiss boy goodnight.:D
 
Mines terrible now they live over the road, full turnout. 6am drive past on way to work check all up right and ok. If I'm working OH goes over Poo picks, check water, fly sprays toffee about 5ish. If I'm off the same above plus ride or drive one of them. Youngest gets fed when OH goes to work or if r goes to work (working museum, youngster is a heavy goes over to meet and greet starting to do some work now).
 
Mine have a very strict routine!

6.30 in to stable and feed
Haynets in stables through day
4.15 brush to ride/daily groom
4.30 ride
5.30-6 finnish riding
Feed once cooled down
6.30ish Out to field for night :)
 
when bought lass i knew she needed routine - and be late by 10 mins she was at back of stable sweating and panicking ( her last stable was dark dingy hole where she was locked up 24/7 and battered) now after 5 years shas chilled if late by a little - yes she still needs routine but hey shes a calmer girl now . routine for me is turn out morning go muck out them both evening natter ragwort bring in and slump in chair lol :) dont you just love horses :)
 
No as my pony lives out and I don't always come and feed him or ride at the same times. During the week I come in the evening after work about 6.30 ish and at weekends I come at about lunch time to ride, some weekends I come early if we are going to a show.

I think it is good he does not have a routine as then he is not annoyed if something different happens and I want to do different things at different times with him.

I have a more or less routine. The tiems to change slightly depending on whether it's the weekend or during the week.

During the week in the morning it's this:

7.15am - get down there
-open stable up
-fetch the boy from the field
-put in stable
-feed morning food (prepared the night before)
-leave to munch on food and hay (might have had to been topped up depending on how much is left)
-poo-pick the field and whilst doing that fill the holes that the stupid rabbits have made
-top up water
-back to boy and pick out feet and give quick brush over
-take back out to field and put on fly mask
done by 8.00am (more or less) and then off to work

Evening:
Depends on whether we're riding as to what time we get down there.
We try to get them fed by around 7.00pm at the moment
We then repeat the majority of the morning's work and we go back into the stable and spend a bit more time with the boys, brushing and making a fuss of in general XD


At the weekends we like to get down there for around 9.00am ish, feed them, get the jobs done and then spend some time with them while their stomachs settle and then take them out for a hack.

Me and my mum are quite lucky though that our horses, while they like their routine when we're down there, they don't mind if the times are different or if something different happens.
 
I have to do things in a particular order because otherwise I forget to check everything.

Get out of car
say hello to mare and foal that are in stable
prepare mares feed and put in paddock
fill mare's water
put mare's haylage in paddock
collect headcollars, fit and take mare and foal to paddock
lock gate
collect wheat bucket from feed store
feed and water top hens
feed and water cockerels
hay/lage to top paddock and stallion paddock
turn out, feed and water bottom hens and geese
check electric fence on hen pen
water to stallion paddock
water to top paddock
check thoroughly all in top paddock (all checks include a good fuss and a groom if time)
check thoroughly all in stallion paddock and check electric fence all ok
check thoroughly all horses
muck out mares's stable, fill water and put in haylage for evening
Finally, I get to check over mare and foal and have a cuddle and a play!

Evenings consist of pretty much same but bringing in rather than turning out poultry, mare and foal and feeds for horses.

lol yeah he never used to eat them when we first got him but he does now so he gets them. i have 2 packets of 6 small packets in my feed bin!!!!
