Do you have to be qualified to be a riding instructor?

I used to teach with no qualification to. However, this was at a busy riding school and theyd've had any tom dick or harry teach just to have more lessons going on at any one time :P x

No you don't have to be qualified in the UK to be a riding instructor, but I am almost certain that you do have to have the relevant insurance.

No I used to teach on a riding school and have only done half of the Bhs exams that lead up to ai I also used to teach private
My best instructors have been ones that don't even hold there stage 1. IMO knowledge and experience is worth far more than someone who has the qualifications

You don't have to be qualified OR insured (though if you are thinking of doing it would strongly suggest you get insurance!) - Insurance more expensive with no teaching qualification though

My instructor isn't qualified but is fantastic. She's an ex eventer and really knows her stuff - and we have made more progress with her in the past 6 months than with others who have all the qualifications but lack real experience!

It wouldn't bother me at all - infact when I think about it the non qualified instructors I have had are far better teachers one to one with your own horse than the BHSAI's. I think it is because they teach from experiance and also just tend to vocalise how they would ride and try different things where as I find the BHS school of thought a little text book but this is just my opinion and I am sure there are some both qualified and experianced teachers out there !
