I am thinking about getting a lorry for my horse, but do you have to pass another driving test to be able to drive a lorry with horses, as I passed my test two years ago? If so, where can you do the training and test and does anyone know how much it costs?
Thanks

If you want to drive a lorry that is over 3.5t you will need to take a further test. You can drive 3.5t boxes on your car licence - but you will need to be aware of weight limitations of these boxes.

It depends where you are in the country to do training if you want to drive 3.5t and over - I did my training with React Training in Reading - http://www.reactdriverhire.co.uk/

I'm sure if you google hgv driver training you should be able to find something in your area.

You haven't said what age you are, if you are over 21 then do a category C LGV test if under 21 but over 18 do category C1 test. For C1 or C you need to pass a medical which your doctor will charge about £80, pass a LGV theory and h.p.test just the same as your car h.p. theory test. Not many LGV schools have C1 lorries ie 3.5 to 7.5 ton so they advise Cat C, it's the same test just a heavier and bigger lorry. When you pass your test if you drive C1 lorries with horses you are excempt from tachograph rules but not with Category C LGV lorries. Hope this info helps PM me if you require more info.
