Got to the yard (DIY yard) this morning and it is an ice rink  didn't want to keep horses in as fields are fine and they would just get wound up.
So I got a metal shovel and started breaking it up to make a track to the back gate, someone saw and came to help :)
We then turned my three out and I turned someone elses two horses out as she was worried about being pulled and falling (she had a op on her knee not long ago), then helped someone else turn one of hers out.
Its not a great morning to have a fluy cold, I feel shattered but think its nice when people pull together to help each other out.

Oh goodness yes, I got to the yard early last week and pulled all of the horses in my barn in, because I couldn't bear them watching Ed come in, when they all wanted to too! I'll always hay and water them a little :) Its nice to be nice, as a local tramp (RIP Alan) told me :)

When I was still on a yard, there were a few of us who would help each other out, and then there were those who would take the mickey.
The first on the yard would feed ALL the horses. Always been the rule for years, except ONE livery (there were 20 horses on the yard) thought she was excluded from this rule and would NEVER feed the others.
Also, we all had each others numbers so if we ever got stuck, broke down or something and genuinely couldnt get to the yard, then there was always someone you could ask to either turn out or bring in for you. The same livery though, used to phone people about 5 mornings out of 7 to ask someone to put her horse out as she had overslept and would be late for work otherwise.

Then there was another livery, who phoned me up on Xmas day, and asked if I would turn out, muck out, and bring in for her so she could have a drink!!!!!

So yeah, we used to help each other out, if they didnt take the mick.

Yes we help each other out. Would be do able but difficult for most with work etc if we didnt. :)
What annoys me though is the people who just take it for granted you will see to their horse and turn up at the yard when ever they feel like it. :(

Yep :)
Theres one lady on our yard who does my 4's haynets all week for me as me and mum work full time and as thanks we turn out and do haynets for her cob on sat and un so she can have a lie in.
We also put another ladies 2 horses feeds in on weekday mornings as her old boy takes a while to eat his breakfast as we are down at 5.30am. She does jobs for us when asks or puts beds down etc if needed

I've been doing all my liveries this week, at no extra cost either, it's not their fault they can't make it, and I'm not running it as a business so that's fine.....

BUT....when I'm about, and there are liveries there, then I'll always lend a hand if I've got my jobs done.

:D

It's nice then, because they return the favour if i'm busy and they are done with their neddies....

:D

Yeah my yard is great for helping each other out. Sadly there are only a couple of people I can ask to help me as my somewhat quirky horse will only be caught by a very limited 'circle of trust':rolleyes:

Yes, the people on my yard, have helped me out all the time i've been in hospital. Also helped me last couple days when i've been unable to drive anywhere, they offered.

Also if i'm running late (usually when im at hospital appt) they will bring ted in, then i'll get to him asap.

I am also happy to bring others horses in if others a running late, or hay.

Often if im walking up fields and notice whoever has no water, or rugs undone, I will fix this too. etc.

Yep, just got back from the yard. One of the girls has cleared the yard of snow and ice, it is now super safe from slipping. All week I have been keeping the water containers topped up with water from YO's house as the hose is frozen.

Someone else swept the feed room and tack room last week.

It's a great atmosphere at the moment, although wasn't always like this as we did have a few 'takers' - but they have moved off elsewhere :)

Yes, we do. I went about 7.30am and turned the four boys out- another owner will go and get them in about 2.30pm and I will go at about 5pm to feed. We all agree to leave our horses in turnout rugs in the stable so that it makes it easier and less time-consuming.

I have friends on the yard I'm on that help me out and I like to help them out too and some things will be done automatically like if one of the horses has eaten all their hay then someone will chuck some more over the door, and if horses are coming in we make sure no horse is left out on its own.

yep we all muck in and help each other out too - this morning a few of us were out gritting a path so the horses could go out, we always help each other bringing in if people cant get there in time and we share weekend turning out duties so everyone can have a lie in once a week!

Although neddie kept at home she goes to my trainer when we go on holiday and we always help each other out. OK, so there is always one on every yard who comes, does their horse & goes and when do help seem to have a knack of making everyone know.

I helped out 'friend' once when she broke her leg Turned her 3 horses out for over 3 weeks. Asked her once if she would bring my 35 year old pony in because I was going out and she did not. /she also had teenagers daughters that could have done it. She turned out to be the bitch from hell

Yes we do. We leave feed buckets out the night before and someone feeds the horses early for us :D If needs be we get other horses in. I've helped out other liveries and we all get on well, so I won't hesitate in asking for help if needs be.

everyone at my yard is very helpful its quite pleasant after being at a large yard where only me and one other helped.

its nice to be nice as someone has already said - i think we are quite lucky that everyone is quite considerate of each other and everyone will offer to help bring in/turnout if they are there. I bring in the horse in the stable next to mines and she turns mine out in the morning, it works well as i stay far away and it suits the girl with the horse next to me to do mornings, i do offer to let her have a lie in though. If i have been kicking about late i will always skip out the two horses next to mine like tesco says every little helps! :)

Thank god, yes. If feed and hay is left outside a stable, whoever is first up puts it in-I was first round my section today so fed everyone. I can always phone and get Beau brought in, mucked out, fed by a friend etc. If anyone goes to buy feed, we ask if anyone else needs anything and we organise big deliveries of shavings etc to be bought by one person who then gets paid back.

Yep, well apart from a select few that is!! We have a feeding rota for breaky and lunch, but if you need dinner feed then theres always someone there aswell. I also look after my friends horse twice a week and she does mine once a week. Theres always someone at the yard so if you need horsey turned out or something it can be done :D

Everyone on our yard helps each other out. Like cinammontoast's yard we also always ask around if we're getting feed/hay/bedding if anyone else needs any and then get them all together. We have each other's numbers so if someone is ever stuck for something, help is only a phonecall away.

Well, there a few who help each other out but to be honest there is a few that just do as they please and have no respect or thought for anyone including other's horses. Actually my yard isn't too great at the mo. :(

Yes, we all help each other out my yard. We all check each others horses each day, friends will bring or turn Charlie out if need be. We all take hay down to the field. My friend checked Charlie for me today as there was too much ice on my road to get to the yard.

well, the other livery at our yard phoned YO when she found one of my ponies on the track the other morning, unfortunately by the time we got there almost an hour later because of the snow, he was out on the road because no-one had thought to close the gate to keep him in. Fortunately he is uninjured and behind a padlocked gate so he cant get out again! Other than that we keep to ourselves, although this is very new as traditionally the yard has always had liveries that were supportive of each other.
