I've not voted because I do sometimes. It depends what I am hunting and what country we are in.
I hate hunting in boots, for me the cons outweight the pros and I very rarely use them, but sometimes needs must.

Yes. I invest in good quality boots and my (white legged) horse always has clean legs under then regardless of the country. I wont hunt in clay or heavy going though as my horse is too precious. Mad I know!! Even my cob used to hunt in NEW fleecy boots and always had clean dry legs underneath.

Yes - my horses legs are too valuable to damage, and if properly fitting boots are worn, they won't slip or allow grit inside the boot.
BTW - I use equiflect XC boots and occasionally woof ones behind. The amount of tears and gouges out of the boots, I would hate to see the horses legs if no boots were worn.

Unfortunately I have also seen a well booted horse (hunting for the first time) cut itself twice in the first half hour once on pastern and once just above knee. There is only so much of the leg that can be covered with boots.

I use leather brushing boots on all 4 of Ali's legs, I just can't risk him injuring himself. Even though he's a clean jumper, it's better to be safe than sorry IMO. I use fleece lined leather brushing boots on his front legs, they don't slip or rub even when we're going through very deep, wet, and boggy all day. I use plain neoprone lined leather brushing boots on his hind legs and they don't slip or rub either. I never bothered with boots with Castle though as he was a very sturdy lad...

Agree with Sarah, think it depends largely on the horse, I know I would have never put them on cob, some horses just cannot abide stuff around their legs for that long, not because of dirt getting in, just because 3hours with brushing boots on doesn't suit every ned. Saying that my horse's common misconception that he is a dressage horse often leave me some nasty over reach marks if I dont boot him.

I hate Matt's knee boots because they are clip on and shite. I bought a pair from Throstlenest two seasons ago for my coloured when I first bought him from hedge country. They have never rubbed nor slipped, money well spent because if anything hits a rockwood wall, more than likely its the horse that is going to give before the wall.
