Do you know of any horses for sale which is safe for a novice adult around the Lincolnshire/Yorkshire area? (We're based in North Lincolnshire).

Specifics:- My friend is in her early 40's, so would prefer a happy hacker type, that would be suitable to have a pootle around the school, and perhaps to progress onto lower level local shows. She would like a hardy cob type, or a cob cross, ID, ISH.... anything considered really. Age wise, nothing too young - anything sensible 6 years and over, probably up to about 12 years of age. She would prefer a gelding, or a laid back mare that is not mare-ish. Definitely NO rigs! She would need something that would go out in a mixed herd of 6 - 8 horses, which lives in or out. Height wise, 15hh - 16.2hh. Budget to play with - well it depends on the horse really.... money is not an issue, within moderation mind!

In the past, for as long as I have known her, she has loaned a HW 17hh ID mare at our yard for over a year or two, and has managed with her quite well, (the mare is not always the easiest to handle, she knows she is big and uses it to her advantage at times)!

My friend decided that she would like her own, and recently bought what she thought, and was sold as, a quiet laid back 3 year old coloured cob which had been broken in. Turns out he wasn't so quiet, not so broken, very bolshy and had some attitude to go with it. She was over horsed and not experienced enough, and he was sold through the breeder she bought him from.

I have trowlled the usual sites, found one or two, but wondered if anyone on here knew of anything! My friend is a genuinely nice person, the horse would want for nothing, would be looked after very well daily on a nice DIY yard with plenty of clean grazing and decent electric fencing with plenty of facilities.

Thanks in advance! xx :)

i think you are looking for something that is very popular. if she needs something safe why not look at older than 12? my friend wanted a safe horse and bought one aged 16, she rode her for 12 years, did lots of little shows and pleasure rides and only lost her at age 29. i had a cob which i aquired at age 13 and she was ridden at riding club events and did lots of hacking till she was 31. i lost her at 35. they are out there and younger ones can go lame or get ill just as much as an oldie. good luck
