Have you contacted the previous owner on the passport (or is it the dealer?).

I did it with my horse and got a wealth of information.

Don't know him, but he doesn't look happy in his back

There are two Millfield 'Studs' in Yorkshire

One has superb youngstock who all carry the prefix 'Millfield' and are presented at gradings etc. Some fabulous horses

The other is a dealer who trades in all sorts. Nothing wrong with that, but 'eyes open' is a phrase I would use. '

What breed is he? Who's the passport issued by?

He looks unsound in the video, and very unhappy in the mouth. I'm glad you've had someone to check his back, but personally I really wouldn't be riding him untill you were 100% confident that he's sound and not in pain. I'm assuming, from the advice you're all giving him on the video, that your husband is a novice? It'd be horrible if the horse 'threw in the towel' because he's in pain and your husband was injured.

Best of luck with him. I hope you can get him sorted out

thanx everyone for your help, kind of confirmed what i thought, so far he's had the dentist and he's had the back man and he's out again tomorrow and then the next step is the vet and xrays i think and go from there he can have all the time he needs must have been up to the eyes in bute as was ridden at the sales perfectly not to worry he has a loving home now thanks again x

think you've done a lovely thing getting him from the sales. poor horse obviously needs someone to care for him like you. good luck with him and hope you find the infomation your looking for. keep us updated over the next few weeks!!

I know Millfield stud, its at a place called Barnburgh near Doncaster, I have seen he advertises on horsemart too, its run by a guy called Andy Styles I think ? I drive by it on the way to hospital at Mexborough, theres little grass and the horses look poor...

I remeber seeing this horse on horsemart as it has very similar face markings to my friends horse. After abit of googling I found his old advert on another site. Millfield stud advert said
Marko 16hh 10 years old bay gelding ridden by a young lady good to box, shoe, clip and catch etc hacked around the village and lanes, he has also worked in a riding school £1,250

Ditto above, just do as many checks as you can, if the horse has a clean bill of health and your tack fits, then just take time getting know each other, you never the know the horse may of been passed around and may need some quality one on one time with someone, some proper schooling without too much pressure but with an experienced yet sympathetic rider.

Not all horses that end up in the sales are rights off's and looney tunes, sometimes they just end up going through a bad stage in their lives because they have needed a little more understanding and someone who takes there time to make sure the horse is sound and just as importantly happy with the work there been asked of.

I've heard a few negatives about the dealer so the chances are the horse has an issue somewhere along the line but it doesn't mean to say that it cant be solved. its easy to regret it and be told you shouldn't of bought it from sale....but you did and its done now, so you need to move forward.

Take it a step at a time and I hope things work out but if not then take it as a learning experience and remain positive about it all.

I bought a horse from Andy Stoyles, he cost me a lot of money in vet bills but was the kindest tb ever. I absolutely adored him. He looks like he needs a lot building up and maybe some floor work to strengthen his back before riding him - your husband is no way too big for him but could be quite heavy for the horse at the minute. Andy buys tb types from the sales so if has ended up there again i'm glad you have bought him and plan to give him the tlc he deserves. The passport for my boy was also very very vague

omg thankyou everyone for your support, i was feeling really low and stressing terribly about the horse but after reading your lovely helpful comments i feel like we can take the world on and i don,t feel like such an idiot for buying from the sales and my main concern is getting the boy well no matter how long it takes me, well the update so far marko is still poorly although he is coming along alot better weight wise and the back man has been out again not much has improved so my next course of action is pysio and trying to build his strength back up i will keep in touch and let you know how he is doing many thanks again for your support it is appreciated greatly x
