Ok, the last 5 horses I have owned-

Yarlan; lovely polish wb stallion. Loved his name and it really suited him.

Misty; a grey pony so that was changed straight away to Summer.

Kamelia (WTF); shetland yearling. Renamed Lily ( who is now owned by a lovely HHOer.

Viento; current boy. I like his name although it took me a while to remember what it was.

But he gets called V.

Adina; current 3 year old. I HATE HATE HATE this name. Even worse, I find out, on her passport, she is actually registred as Adinda; 100 times worse! But, for some reason I cannot bring myself to change her name and can't think of anything similar to "tweek" it. So am stuck with a horse whos name I am embarrassed to say out loud!

Anyone else have this problem?

Sorry don't have that problem, but was thinking my friends mare is called Amina and that doesn't sound so different from Adina so you might be able to get away with that.

Yes, I really feel for you! Last horse I had, had a name which no commentators could pronounce and you couldn't shorten it to anything nice! When I bought the horse I have now I just changed his name straight away!!

Oh, and of course there's my boy Oofa! But I've learnt to love that one.

I'd just call her "Addy", that's a nice-enough shortened version, isn't it? (a friend calls he son Adam "addy" all the time!"
I have one i bought as a yearling who was called "Ten." I call her Ellie (sort-of short for eleven!) because at least it's a nicer name. "Ten" is the worst name I've ever heard of for a horse!

My pony is called Kirzty (spelt with a 'z' but said normally with a 's') and I hated it at first but I kept it and it kind of suits her in a funny way. It is embarrassing when people ask though!!

My horse was called Fern when we got her but we didn't really like that but wanted something similar so we called her Firl.

I have had:

Brandy - a nice name for a wee old shetland who was about 20 when I was born and lived for another 15!

Misty - liked that

- But was a loan so couldn't change it. She was fabulous though and had a fan club of little girls who loved her

Glory - I chose it and loved it

Posh name Mornington Crescent becasue of the moon shape on her face.

Philli - short for Philadelphia - mum's horse. I like it.

April - another loan but a lovely name. Posh name is Bay Angel which I love!

Tara - I'm not sure... it's ok lol.
Not what I would pick for a horse! Her posh name is My Lady Tara so we call her 'the Lady Tara' in a plummy voice
grin.gif

Not keen on Stylo, just rather odd. He is registred as Stylish Sunrise, hardly a manly name.
smirk.gif

His has been the only name I haven't been keen on.
Although I did have a little welsh called Sixpence, not a common name but I liked it.

My TBx wasn't named when I bought her so I got to pick her name which was loads of fun
grin.gif
Ponio has a cool sounding Welsh name so I just call her Cop as apparantly her first name means Copper
smile.gif

I have had:

Shannon - loved it

Puck - Loved it - suited hime to the ground! - but got told off so many times in the show ring when talking to him and people misheard me!

wink.gif

Pagan - Loved it

Malaki - Loved it

Lottie - She is my girl now - she was called Violette (didn't really like that) tried Letti - didn't suit but Lotti is perfect for her - she is cute, sweet and perfect!

My new horse came with the name Dido.

1. I hate the singer Dido
2. It sounds too much like a rude word

Josh was called Thunder when I got him, cos 'when he were born it were thunderin' apparently. there was no way I was standing at the top of the field shouting Thunder though!
crazy.gif

Connie is really Connegia, but that's too much of a mouthful!
We had a stray cat that adopted us at uni and my housemate had called it Minger, which stuck. She came home with me, can you imagine the looks on peoples faces when they asked the cat's name?!
blush.gif
We tried to change it to Mingy, but she'll forever be Minger to me!!

When I bought Oskar he didn't have an English stable name, he was brought over from Holland and had a Dutch stable name, but they used to call him Bug, as in Ugly Bug, poor boy. I had him a few weeks and tried out various names, but Oskar was the one that stuck. So I like it because I chose it!

Our first horse was called Noddy (race name Nordic Breeze) and it suited him so well

Second one was Buck (race name Buckskin)

Our pony is called Teddy (Haydens Hill Tiger Ted or something) which suits him but is crappy as everyone has a horse or pony called Teddy it seems. We call him Teddy Tacker so have lengthened it for some reason!

The TB we have now is called Blue (racing name Lucifer Bleu) and we definitely weren't going to call him Lucifer!

Ah, my pony was called Rosie and her proper name was Doucle D'or (goldie locks) she was palomino! so cute!

My other girly was nameless when she arrived and after about 2 weeks of silly names and being refered to as The Bay Mare..we decieded on Phoebe, altho my mum wanted to call her GeeGee, (now think strong french accent...)

Someone told me your not meant to change a horses name apparently its bad luck!

NOTHING can be as bad as my horses name. He is called Harpy, which always reminds me of Herpes. Even worst that is his registered name!

Not even allowed to call him Harvey at home as BF throws a hissy fit because its the name of the most stunning looking ex i had

My horse is called Pilib - apparently the Irish form of Philip!

I call him Pills for short. But it is weird explaining to people what I mean when I say that I am going to do Pills!!!!

I haven't changed his name as he is an old man and he is used to it.

It's a great name.

I ended up renaming a gelding Barbie

well he was the most perfect little welsh b ever he did just look like he was one of Barbie's ponies.

Chloe came to us with the name 'cloud' - fine for a little grey pony, not so good for a beast of a black shire x cyldie mare. Apparently she was only called that because it was the name on the stable door at the dealers yard where the previous owners rescued her, so we amended it to Chloe.

Megan came to me without a name - she was just referred to as 'the cob' at the yard she was staying at (she was an import from ireland on a yard full of posh show ponies). So yes, I like her name as I chose it!

My previous horse was called thumper, and although it suited him as he was a bit of a bruiser, I didn't really like shouting 'thumper' down the field.

I've had Polly, Trixie, Sky, Rosie, Casper and Oscar.

I liked them all for the individual pony/ horse that they were. I've still got Polly, although it used to annoy me when people called her 'Polly the Pony' and Oscar, I like his name and it really suits him.

I have had a few horses, and some had name changes.
Stan - he was a big 17.1 TB and it suited him
Mac - 16.3 TB, bit loopy, he was called BigMac as he was big lol.
Eric - 16.3 TB. Felt silly calling him Eric but it was a cool name. I called him Boss mostly
smile.gif

Magic - according to her details used to be called tarot - glad someone changed it!
Coco - was called Meco, hated that name it meant nothing and I changed it to Coco - should have changed it to little bucker or stupid git
smile.gif

Herbie - called Sonic Herbi, so I elected to call him herbie, as i didn't want a blue hedgehog name!
