I don't know why I didn't start doing this years ago!

Every minute counts in the mornings for me, in order to get to work on time and now I have my spiralled muckheap - its marvellous!

All week I run the wheel barrow up and gradually fill the spiral in and then make a new one at the weekends

Hey presto - a continuously neat muckheap, (ahhh, sighs with contentment

)

Perhaps we could start a picture thread to all show off our patterned muckheaps!

LOL - I dig a track in the muckheap starting at the front and curving round to the back - I'll get a picture later when I bring them in

Off to Google pooh ziggurat........

OMG - you have a.....

"to build on a raised area") were massive monuments built in the ancient Mesopotamian valley and western Iranian plateau, having the form of a terraced step pyramid of successively receding stories or levels

I really need to see a photo of that!

I need pics, not sure if it would work with straw.

Mine is traditional rectangle with nice smart walls, though tbh I have been a bit slack with it this year as the badgers keep digging it and mum keeps making a mess!

Was that Spiral or Sprawling?

Mine's more of a sprawling since the snow!

Got a LOT of tidying up to do this spring!

Looking forward to seeing photos!

Honestly - I can't believe that I have actually just been out and taken a photo of the muckheap!!

I am really not anal about it - promise! Was just enthusing about how time saving it is to have it this way

Anyway - as it turns out the photo hasn't come out very well as the light was fading, but it gives you an idea.

I run the wheelbarrow up the ramp and tip at the end, gradually working backwards until by the end of the week the track has filled up and then next weekend I will dig another one - see, time saving!!!

just dont tell anyone that you have been taking pics of muckheap.... I doubt you were spotted!

but you have to dig another track? that sounds like hard work to me

, not sure if the straw would compact down enough for a decent track. hmmmmm

Lucky you!! We had ours taken away last year for the first time in about ten years! I think it was so big it was nearly officially recorded as the first mountain on Exmoor!!

We have an armchair at work! I titivate it every day and then have a good go at it once a week ish to keep it really tidy...at home I just have a boring rectange that I squish and bank up (a bit like the spiral but not tipping over the edge) as I dont have a great deal of room!
Sincce working on the Dressage yard I have become pretty anal about muck heaps! Oh, and the spiral would work with straw...when you dig your track have a good dance and stomp and then the base where you walk is solid! x

Oh trust Ravenwood to confuse everyone.....**whispers - what's a spiralled muck heap R?**

Sounds very complicated to me, I just chuck mine up and try to keep it square, then every couple of weeks OH takes it away in the tractor!

Have you taken your measuring tape just to check the angles are correct and the circumference of each spiral is the same?

p.s. where's the pic?
