Hello All,

After years of struggling to find livery yards in my area i have launched a new (and free!) website for exactly that purpose- http://*******.co.uk. But this one is nationwide!

If you offer ANY type of livery or even just facility hire you will be eligible for a free listing. Well not just a lineage listing like on most sites but a whole page dedicated to your yard, photos, web link etc and it is free sothere cant be any reason to not sign up if you have a yard!

I have literally launched it yesterday so only a few members at present but lots of nationwide marketing coming over future weeks so it will be big... i want it to be the Rightmove of livery yards!!!

I have tried to make it a really appealing, easy to use site for both members and users so i hope you will take a look. If you want to add your yard it takes only 5 minutes and then you can access you account 24/7 to update with events/ vacancies etc.

Please feel free to take a look at the site and contact me with any queries. Obviously the site is brand new so i will be looking to constantly to improve it- if there is anything you think can improve the site please let me know!

;)

Thank you!

I have spent too much of my life trawling the depths of equine directories trying to find livery then finding the information i have found is out of date.

I know there is nothing of this type around at the moment- most 'directories' are just cribbed off off other websites which is why they are out of date and why ******* is managed by the yard owners themselves.

Also listings have their own web address so ideal for those wihtout their own website to have an online presence and still for free!

So hopefully yard owners will realise how much potential the site has. Already have some big advertisers interested but need to get the listings on there first!

Should also say that if people don't have time to add their yard i will happily do it for you. Just reply to post (or email me) with your name and website address and i will create a listing for you using info available on your website. tTen i'll email you your log in info so you can access the listing when convenient.

:)

I to have struggled in the past to find livery close by, the place i'm at now i found out about by asking a freelance instructor. So many places dont advertise locally so this is a fantastic idea! I hope it becomes huge :) x

Haven't good a livery yard but great idea and nice easy to use website especially the sample docs. Would def use if it was up to date and I was looking.

Hi,

Yes will definately be up to date as i will send regular reminders to yard owners to update their page! I will also keep an eye on the listings to ensure all contact details are current too!

Please do share the website link with anyone else you know who has a yard and may be interested in advertising on it.

I am really please all think its a good idea :D

Great idea, just make sure your site is one of the top search results when using Google etc as that's the first place i type in "Livery Yards"

Good luck with it all.

It's a great idea and the website looks good and is easy to use, good luck getting take-up (I'll suggest our YM uses it!). The documents are very handy too, although the first one I opened had very low suggested prices for livery, I'd be delighted to find good part livery for £80 around here ;) The cheapest I've found is £120!

I think this website is a fantastic idea, and will be really really useful! It can be so difficult to find yards, particularly in a new area or one you're unfamiliar with.

Just one thought - on the pages I saw, I didn't see any section for prices - certainly for me that is a very important consideration and would be really useful to see a 'price p/w' for different types of livery breakdown on each page.

Yes, once i have a fair amount of yards i will optimise it as will pick up info from the listing pages for the search engine so hopefully in not too long it will be top when you search livery yards. If i do it now there is not a lot of content for it to pick up.

I did consider adding the £ on the listings pages but to be honest hardly any of the yard owners i discussed the planning of the site with said they would enter it due to a fear of other yards undercutting and various other obscure reasons!

Thats also why i've added a contact form on each page and direct link to the website so any queries can be asked direct to the yard. However this is something on the list of possibilities!

All other commemts and suggestions are being squirreled away on a list ready to present to my web man this week.

:)

I think you've got a really good idea because I've had problems finding livery yard info in the past (normally out of date if you can find it at all) but can I ask why you are working for free? Will it always remain free or do you intend to charge for adverts from livery yards or other equestrian service providers in the future?

Fantastic idea, try and get some Cumbrian ones on. They are so rare up here. I can't believe no one else has thought of this before. I really wish you all the best and will be telling my YO about it.

Cracking idea, well done. If you have any leaflets I'd be happy to put them out on our trade stand at badminton. Might just help raise the profile and get some more livery yards for you

Hello!

With regards to why this is free and whether this will remain so will be under review depending on the response.

It is hoped that if i can get enough users and listings on the site i can get site advertising from some of the large companies in the UK (some of which have already been contacted and shown interest).

Another option would be to introduce additional listings for other service providers (but not go mad and will keep to the basic services a horse owner would need if they were moving area/ livery yard i.e vets, feed merchants, saddleries and so on). This would also be run seperately from the livery listings and the livery search and related info will always be the main content of the site.

I will not be making this one of the hectic advert filled mish moshes of equine directories that currently exist!!

Even if i have to charge eventually i am not greedy so this will purely be a nominal fee to help run the site. Other obscure sites which i have never heard of and only come across in the quest to launch ******* charge in the region of £100-£200 per year for a simple listing with a web link- not a full page, photos and info as you can upload on *******. I would be nowhere near this by a long stretch!!

looks really good to me, will certainly be a usefull service. Only thing I would suggest is on the find a yard page could you put the locations of the yards somewhere in their titles so I don't have to click on each one to find where it is? (I know that once you have lots of yards I can just search by area so won't need this as much but it is usefull when just browsing).

Hi,
fab idea, i added my yard earlier :)
one thing though, the 'distances' are totally wrong! my yard is 4.2 miles from my home, yet when i search from my postcode, it says the yard is approx 9.02 miles away..... I know for a fact a lot of people in my area think 4 miles is too far to travel to a yard so if they thought we were 9 miles away, they certainly wouldnt even bother calling.
not sure exactly how it works out the distances etc but maybe it needs tweeking somehow to get it more accurate.

Hello,

Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions. Yes to put the county at least on the listing would be a great idea i will see if i can get this sorted.

Regarding the distances you are right they are a little bit out  but i know they are done through google so are a road route rather than as the crow flies so i guess it depends on what route google decides to take! Will raise this with web man this morning!

This is such a fantastic idea! I have been searching high and low for a yard in my area but there is just no central database to go to to find these facilities and services! I will watch this with interest.

I've also noticed sooo many people looking for livery yards on here. Best of luck with it. :)
