Do you pay someone else to do your poo picking??

If so, how much do you pay per hour, or per paddock etc, and how do you organise it?

Does anyone get them to bag it up for sale, or let them take it away and sell it for themselves etc?

I was thinking of alternating paddocks with the horses so that the 'poo picker' is working in an empty paddock. My foal, and my 2yos love to knock the wheelbarrow over whenever possible!

Wish I did!

I was a professional "poo picker" (also known as groom) some time ago and was paid £5.50 - £7 an hour, depending on yard size etc. That was before all the hum drum about minimum wages etc. Horses were left out in the fields.

Jobs included;
poo picking, mucking out, tack cleaning, fence repairs, excersizing, schooling, being there to sell a horse that an owner didn't want to, feeding, watering, keeping clean etc. Basically anything to do with care of horses.

I was freelance and had my own insurance.
 
I would if I could. There's no one at my yard to pay to do it.

It's my least favouritest job, got to do it this Saturday, not too excited :-(

A lad in the village has offered to do it for me for £5 per hour and I am trying to work out how many hours a week it takes etc. I have 4 horses and a foal.
I never have the time to keep it up to date, and so thought if it wouldn't cost me too much, it would be a big help. I would be able to ride more often after work too.
 
We PP our fields every day as we only have 2 turned out. It only takes us 10-20 mins a time to do it.

I think £5 an hours is fair TBH.
 
We have 4-5 horses in our field normally and it takes between an hour and 45 mins to clear it daily. It would probably be best if you could get him to do it once a day as I find if it is left it becomes a massive job. I didn't do it on my usual day last week (we have a rota) and when I did it the next morning I removed 6 wheel barrows!!

Is he going to have to completely clear it initially? Maybe offer him £20 to clear it then £20 a week thereafter to do it daily or every other day.
 
Hi Aniseed, I will make sure it is completely clear before he starts, so then it would be done daily, even if I did a couple of days, and he did the rest. £20 per week sounds ok, until you call it £80 per month, then it sounds quite a lot! He is only 15.

I am thinking about filling Dengie bags with it, and putting it out on the roadside for people to take for allotments etc. (I also have to pay to get the muck heap removed).

I seem to spend all my time poo picking and none of my time riding. Drives me mad!!

We bag all ours up and leave it outside the gate and people come for mles around to collect it, even had a few donations!!

May go off in search of a poo picker now!
 
I have actually just started paying someone to do it. I always do the fields myself, but have a frozen shoulder and poo picking does not help. Phsyio (who is horsey) has said it is pointless her giving me treatment if I then go home and do the field. I have asked a horsey teenager to do it, I have offered £5 an hour and I'm pretty sure she should be able to keep on top of it over the week in a couple of hours, when I do it daily I can clear the field in around 20 minutes. Hopefully in my case it will only be a fairly short term measure as I do begrudge paying someone, I actually don't mind the job on a nice day, although not much fun when its pouring down.
