Do you praise your dogs when they go to the toilet?

Okay, weird question I know, but I realised today that I ALWAYS praise my dogs with a "good girl" or "good boy" when they go to the toilet on our walks. It's something I do of course when toilet training, but my dogs are now older (coming up 8 and 9) and very much house trained and have been for years. Yet I still do it and it really is very much a subconscious thing that I don't even think about doing.

So am I weird (be nice :D) or do other people do this as well?

Not so much with the older two as they're very efficient these days. Still go all high pitched and faux-excited at the pup though :D I've had some funny looks on walks for praising him like mad when he cocks his leg though, he's only just started doing it and I always have to tell him he's clever :o

I am at the moment as she's only just learning. I say "clever girl" and reserve "good girl" for any training needs.

Yes I do! Its really handing getting her to wee/poo on command when we're travelling to Ireland or at an event so I always say the command and praise at each toiletting! Bit obsessive perhaps. :)

This is interesting and a bit reassuring that other people do it too. Perhaps I need to move back home and be around my own kind again because I can't recall ever hearing anyone over here do it ...

Go Weee Weee Weee in a high pitched voice! Was surprised when Winston was about a year he still Wees on command!

And having a dog that will wee/poo on command....isn't that just a life saver when we have snow and cold temperatures like today??? :D

Just taken my crew out for a pee/poo break and it took less than 3 minutes from opening door to closing door for all eight to do their business.

I don't do it generally, whilst out and about... Actually I do. I stop and wait for him to finish and reward him with an unenthusiastic "good lad".

It's a different story though, if it's just a quick pee break in the rain and I'm asking him to wee on command

"Wee wees! Wee wees! Oh, good boy! Who did his wee wees? Did you do a wee wee? What a good boy! Lets go inside now..."

Only if I'm stood at the back door freezing my tits off!! Then its a good boy come on then, or a good boy now wee wee's if he has done a poo, but it trying to sneak back in as it is cold (when I know 10mins later he will be asking to go back out - daft dog).

Yes- can't get out of the habit! Another one that pees/poos on command, so it must help (I hope!).
Plus the one and only time he had a 'house-whoopsie', he was quite upset, so I went into manic poo-praise for a while.
