I posted recently excited because big brown pony has come home.

Big brown pony is a 16.2 racehorse who I used to exercise when I was made redundant last year.I cried myself ill over him when I left and have visited him regularly since then.

I made everyone at the yard promise to let me know when he retires but expected it to be in 4 or 5 years at the soonest. He came home 3 weeks ago having once again been unhappy at the races. He is a lucky boy to have a real horseman as his owner/trainer who saw he was not cut out for the life and has let me buy him, 4 years earlier than I ever imagined and sound and whole!! (I genuinely thought he would come to me broken off the track to be a big pet in 4 - 10 years time!!)

Anyway, big brown pony has so far completely disproved his reputation for being grumpy and nippy, he loves cuddles and face rubs and is quite happy to have rugs changed and grooms while he eats tea.

To date he has hacked out and cantered without getting strong (a first for he and I together, I was always the one overtaking and apologising during exercise!!) hacked out alone again cantered not too strong (another first for us!) Had a bubble bath, done some trot poles and slotted nicely into the herd.

This weekend I will be seeing what he thinks of coloured fences but as he is ex NH I have faith in him. He has turned out to be a quiet, willing little chap in every respect.

Proud post over

pizza for anyone who got this far.

I'll try and get some pics tomorrow if the jumping goes well, won't be big as I am only just off crutches (long and not big brown pony related!)

He has a fancy name for sundays on his passport. The race yard called him Beetle as a play on words of his sire's name. I call him Buglet.

I can't upload pictures but Shiny_ISH might do it for me if she sees the thread, she has 1 of him from the 1st day with us, he's got a little chubbier already since then.

here he is :)

(ooops they were huge) these should be better

Please excuse bp and dodgy socks. I was on crutches and not very stable in saddle! Shouldn't have been riding but he'd been there 12 hours and temptation got the better of me!

What a lovely story and well done to the owner/trainer for putting the horse first.

He looks a cracker as well, hope you have loads of fun with him.

as promised, just a photo of him jumping, he did very well, hurdeled over the first couple of jumps but quickly got the idea of jumping it a bit better and by the end was getting it spot on, only little and only from trot, trying to keep it all nice and calm and relaxed, build his confidence over coloured poles and improve his technique, afterall he is still a baby so we want jumping to be fun :)

Thanku everyone. I am a bit in love. We went for a long hack yesterday and he saw off road motor bikes on the little track we were on. Credit to the bikers they were very polite but buglet just stares and calmly passes them. He was a bit tired when we got home so nice massage and an easy day today I think. I'm so pleased people seem to like him. I'm into my funky colours and he is very brown but he's my baby so I don't mind! Taking him to his 1st show in a couple of weeks. Until then big brown pony over and out.
