I will always remember the first pony i ever rode ,it was a little grey welsh A . She had the sweetest little face like butter wouldnt melt and was like a fairy tail pony every little girls dream. Well,it was for me until i got on the little bugger! I think i managed to stay on for approx 15 secs, boy could this mare buck!!! She was like a mini bronco horse head between the legs all four feet off the floor just wish someone had taped it,would have loved to have seen the look on my face!!!! As i sat on the floor in a heap with an extremely sore bum , i remember asking myself why on earth would anyone think horse riding was fun i couldnt walk properly for about four days. Totally hooked 28 years on and have a real love for Welsh A's god knows why!!!!!! What bout you guys!!!!!!

Yep, first pony i ever rode was when we went to 'try' Polly out, my dad led her and my mum held me on while we walked around the yard with me crying my eyes out! She was my 4th birthday present and I still have my little angel 20 years on!

Oh yes. Was pried off kicking and screaming.

Grey pony, felt like 18h, probably about 13 in reality. Name of Dandy, in Backwell in Bristol (in the days when it wasn't built up). He belonged to a family friend and I was plonked behind the saddle and clung onto the friend, can't remember how fast we went (plod, most likely) .

Parents probably regretted it as I must have cost them a fortune in lessons, ponies etc over the years, at least Christmas and Birthdays were easy.........."Oh just get her something with a horse on it..."

I was 6 months old....my mum decided to plonk me on top of her 14hh pony. Unfortunately, my head was too small for a hat, but with two responsible (!) adults on either side, I would be fine, right? Wrong! pony took a dislike to an oncoming tractor, and somehow I was dropped ....

luckily I dont remember it, and the scar from where I cut my head open on the floor is concealed by a lot of hair!

Didnt stop me gettin back on!

No I don't actually remember the first pony I rode which belonged to my Grandfather, but I have seen photos of me riding him. I was too young to remember - however I did meet up with said pony almost 15 years later.....and he was a lovely little Welsh A - very beautiful and must have given me good rides as the bug remained till this day 40 years later.

I think it was probably my aunts 15hh mare - but it could have been anything!! I was VERY little (a few months old when i first sat on a pony/horse!!

But one of the first ponies that REALLY sticks in my mind is a little black shetland (named Blacky!!), I was only 6 and my RI would phone (YES PHONE!) my mum up and ask her to bring me down to the yard to ride him before a lesson.....because you had to canter the bucks out of him....and then he would be perfect for the rest of the day!!! hehe he was a very naughty pony but i loved him to bits!! I was the only one small enough, who could stay on (and had no fear!)......so i rode him about 3/4 times a week....

My first riding lesson was when I was about 10 years old on a bay New Forest pony call Kerry. I think he was about 13hh. I rode him for my first 5 or 6 lessons and then had a black gelding called Candy who everyone hated, but I absolutely loved!

I rode a RS pony called Smudge at the age of 7, I had nagged and nagged my parents to let me ride so they bought me some lessons. Smudge was about 15hh if I remember and all spotty, but pretty gentle and ploddy. I soon progressed to the speedy little ponies which I loved!

I had a pony ride at a summer fete when I was about 9 on a lovely pony called Peppermint, he was grey!
The lady that owned him was rather elderly and I used to dream that she died and left me him in her will.
When I started riding lessons the first pony I ever rode was a little chestnut called Pepper, and years later I had a job at the same riding school and they had all the same horses that I learnt to ride on

can't remember the first i rode ever, but when i really really got into riding (aged about 7) i learned on a little fat strawberry roan called Dumpling, who is exactly the same colour as our pony now, and then when we moved RSs i learned to jump on a little chestnut welsh A mare, she was 25 but was really fast and fun! i was so sad when I outgrew her! i could list all the horses i have ridden since my 7th birthday... i'm 15 now!

Mine was a donkey on the beach. Fell off and ran after it. They were so impressed they gave me a free ride and I was hooked. Think the first riding school pony was a lovely boy called Sparky who looked ancient even when I was six and when I went back to livery at the farm with my first horse at 20 he was still going strong on the riding school. Bless him.
