Just a thought..I work all week, any spare time I spend with family and horses.
I see on Facebook that my non horsey friends seem to do so much more. So whats your social life like outside of horses?

non - existent!! Other than family, my social life revolves around horsey and hunting friends.

Tbh I find it hard to relate to non-horsey people...

I used to be soo sociable, it drove my OH mad, but recently I have become very anti-social (I own a salon & have to converse all day) & would rather be home with a bottle as I am or with my horse as I was an hour ago.

I watch my friends spend so much money shopping & partying & wonder how they can afford it then realise they don't have a horse!!!

My OH is desp to organise something for my upcoming birthday & doesnt understand how I can "get so excited about trotting round the village for a few hours" and not my birthday. Give me a beaxh ride in the morning & leave me be in the evening & I am happy!

Hmmm maybe it's more to do with my age than being a horse owner? ;)

I do try to make a fortnightly trip out for dinner/pub/cinema with people and as they all own horses and work with horses it makes it easier to avoid going out very often :D I rarely head out with anyone not connected with horses though but it's nice when I do as the conversation is so incredibly different and yes I lose track every so often but it's refreshing to know that a normal world does still exist somewhere lol!

Socialise? What's that then?

I go to work, go to yard and speak to other owners, come home and evenings are spent in with my fiance. Weekends, I visit my family.
Other than at the yard, I don't socialise with horsey people either.

I actually socialise MORE outside the horsey world, people seem more normal lol :D

I do have about three horsey friends and thats plenty for me, just dont have the time these days for lots of socialising outside my badminton commitments (where most of my friends are ;) ) my coaching and training for tournaments :)

Might change next year with me perhaps getting the young one out more but not sure :)

I work , have horses & kids - I try to stay in touch with old friends - but they like to do lumch & shop - we just don't seem to have that much in commom anymore - I was invited out the other week to go shopping on a Saturday afternoon - thats horsey time & the thought of a busy shopping centre on a Saturday afternoon - yuk - I made polite excuses & rode instead - I guess we have all changed x

Most of my time is with the four neds and my oh.
Tho oh thinks its mostly with the four legged ones!!!
None horsey people like to do odd things like sleep in til eleven and then spend the remainder of the day wandering seemingly aimlessly around the same dreary shipping centres as the preceeding weeks
Whereas I like to get to bed early, up early to hack out or school four horses, ideally doing the same in the afternoon. Lunch is optional depending on time!!
Shopping is a trauma necessary and made less painful by doing it online.
But each to their own!!!

Brilliantly put. We went into town today for Xmas shopping, spent 1 hour getting there, hubby forgot wallet, Ihr drive back, now doing shopping online:D

Nope not really. I'm 15 and I'm home schooled, so even though I have a few non horsey friend but I don't see them much, if ever I go shopping it's with other horsey people...I just don't have time to party inbetween horses and helping at the local riding school and studying XD But it's good enough for me :P

I socialise more away from horse's than with other horsey people!

Usually, one or two work evenings to both nights at the weekend and usually try to do something unhorsey at least one half of the weekend.

Bizarelly, I actually find most horsey people harder work than non horsey people a lot of the time!

I am known as being a bit of a party girl... Weekends are for drinking ridiculous amounts, getting in at 4am, waking up at 12pm, shopping, getting dressed and either partying more or spending the day on the sofa.

UNTIL

I have bought a horse which will -budget wise - restrict me to one night out a month at best. When he eventually arrives (please cross your fingers for me, had a loading nightmare today in a trailer so going to attempt a second go in a box on Wednesday) then I will HAVE to get up at 7am on weekends, cant be too drunk to drive and will have much better things to do with my weekend.

It almost makes me happy to see that none of you have a social life, I dont want to be a party girl anymore... I want to be a horsey country girl again as I was before I discovered the joys of alcohol!!

Umm, social life? What's one of those then..? If I do go out anywhere other than the yard its with horsey friends but rarely do as I just don't have the money thanks to pony!

I'm 18 it's not good really ... Even my nan moans that I don't go out enough!

actually have let things slide on the social front, but that is my fault. my oh is spending a heap of time socialising, so I must get things back on track.

All socialising is with non horsey people as OH can't bear horsey people, but that is ok with me. I get enough horsey socialising at pony club etc, and really it does get a bit much when the only conversation is about how much something cost, saddle/pony/float/property or how well someone has done at whatever the last event was, or bitching about someone who is not there.

I try to make an effort to. I work full time in the week (8-5), I have a horse who's stabled overnight on DIY (twice daily yard trips), I ride / exercise every day, and I go out at least once a week (more if I'm up for it). It is possible, but I don't have kids to put into the equation ;)
