Do you still ride if you're in a bad mood?

I was in a foul mood tonight. I knew if i rode we would just argue and ruin the good work we've been doing. I've had the best week or so with him, working on his loading issues, going on a lovely long hack and getting some nice schooling. I knew i would mess that up by trying to school, but it was too late to hack out and i wanted to do something to cheer me up.

We fought, he just ran round at a million miles per hour with his nose in the air like we did a year ago.

So, do you do it? Does it cheer you up, do you fight or can you leave your issues behind? What do you do instead if your horse needs exercise?

Just random wafflings, sorry :o

If I'm in a stinking mood I always go and see my horses, its therapy to me and always lightens my mood. I spend ages grooming and pampering them until I'm cheerful again, and it always achieves this, and then I ride and I forget all my worries (as have to concentrate on not falling off and multitasking my brain on a horse doesn't work for me lol) :)

Depends on the intensity! Tend not to sit on anything tricky or sharp if the world is not doing my bidding cos I know that we'll both just get p****d off.

If just needing an escape will take old mare out for a wander - works wonders;
If medium grumpy will target obnoxious stallion who actually produces far better work if ridden with an "effing get on with it" attitude - gets it out of both our systems!
If nuclear - avoid beasts totally!

I'm lucky that I do actually have a few to choose from for therapy, but not so easy when there's only one. Realistically, the world wouldn't have stopped turning if he'd had a night off tho..... You don't say if you have a school, but sometimes just turning them out somewhere and watching them being a horse can be incredibly calming too.

Hoping you're more at one with the world.......... x

I might hack out - but I wouldn't school. It's not fair to the horse because I would end up riding aggressively-- and he doesn't need that! I have the world's most obliging boy - he can get his knickers in a twist and get frustrated but always tries to please. So if I've got a short temper, it would just end up making him sour.

No I groom or something. Rosie is very sensitive and we just end up arguing if I ride when I am stressed etc. Have found that every time I have ridden when in a bad mood I have ended up with an incident of some sort.

When i had a horse I usually found that just spendng tme wth them would help me get in a better mood, then if i had time i would ride. However if I was still n a mood i probably wouldn't.

I'm probably in the minority but I do ride.
My horse is a very sensitive creature like many others but I find that I've got to relax and chill as she doesn't respond well to me being in a bad mood.
She makes me relax and usually I'm in a far better mood coming off her

I don't school my mare in a bad mood as she is very sensitive and she would pick up on any tension straight away, this then makes her tense and isnt a recipe for anything productive! A nice chilled hack can make me feel much better though, as long as i have company as by herself she is a complete stress head and it would be a disaster!

I'm not someone who really gets in a ''bad mood'' and if for whatever reason I was stressed out about something, that all disolves pretty quickly the minute I am at the yard!

I tend to forget pretty much anything the moment I catch sight of my horse (without sounding like a complete sado!) and then I am off into my own little world with her - totally stress free.

Of course the moment I am back in home or whatever I could be back to whatever what stessing me out but I have to say riding is totally peaceful for me and probably one of the many reasons why I love it so much - I just get so into it when at the yard.

For a long time she was the bane of all my stress as I just kept falling off, but was never in a bad mood with it, just high levels of anxiety! lol

As with many others - I hack rather than school if i can otherwise i'd turn out and play to remind me why I do it all. I don't school if i'm in a bad mood because my boy is a baby and wouldn't want to undo the good work we've done.

I never ride when I'm in a fowl mood.... It's a seriously bad combination :o I just end up tthinking about what it was that annoyed me and then it just goes tits up after that really lol

^^^^^^This
I've learnt to control my mood on one of my horses because he is so spooky and flighty that it takes serious control to ignore him

Yeap i would ride but as soon as i get on my bad mood usually goes away if not "step away from the whip" :p But i even ride when im not well or if im really not well then i can just toss the sister on lol

I do ride when stressed or in a bad mood but stick with hacking. My horse loves to hack and we can amble about on a longish rein and chill out. Best therapy there is. Dont school, only did that once when i had a bad day and found myself in tears when trying to canter a 20m circle!

Yep I always ride when im in a bood mood as it cheers me right up!! But I would NEVER school as we would just end up in an argument lol!! I always go for a nice long hack and squeeze in a good blast or a nice canter round the fields at home if the ground is good. Works wonders for me.
In fact thats what I did last night, I wasnt in a bad mood but was absolutely exhausted, really wasnt in the mood to ride, but forced myself and went for a nice lazy canter around the fields. Felt great after and was really glad I did :)

like most I usually hack instead of school
as soon as my butt hits the saddle, its melted away.

My girl is a lovely understanding beauty - if im stressed she sorts me right out! :D

if she is busy - Ill sweep up, tidy up, for ages - till i forget! and have a swig of my hunting hip flask! ;)
