I don't think this is advertising, it's just that if you do teach - whatever level and discipline, I thought you might be interested in a series of talks coming up on the UKCC (UK Cpoaching Certificate), which is the trainers' framework that the Olympic disciplines are going to have to adhere to in order to comply with grant money and stuff.

This is from the BD website:

"Important news for all trainers

With the introduction of the UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC) next year, the British Dressage training committee is looking at ways to put in place training that trainers need to acquire the necessary skills to achieve the UKCC at each level.

With this in mind, the pyramid training scheme is to be replaced by the Regional Trainers Clubs (RTC). A new programme of regional training opportunities will be organised via the RTCs, which will be open to all trainers currently listed on the BD Trainers Database as well as accredited BE and BSJA trainers.

If you do not want to take the UKCC, you will still be welcome to become a member and join in the training. You will meet like-minded trainers, have the opportunity to work on your own continuous professional development (CPD) and log books will be available for trainers to record their training for use towards the UKCC.

More information on the UKCC will be available soon from BD Sport & Technical Officer Ruth Tyler. "

As far as I know each BD region is having a meeting in the near future to which all are welcome to talk about how this will work and the impact it will have. The meeting for the Eastern region is on 29th January at Towerlands. If you are interested in going email me today at victoria.abbott@eqprof.com. For other regions contact the relevant RDO - details are on the BD website.

Just came across your post. I would love to take UKCC in the not do distant future. Do you know by any chance how will the BHS system be incorporated (if at all) into this new scheme? Thanks

I dont think the BHS is involved with this at all. I was looking at doing the UKCC as well because it is aimed at more training and coaching rather than the BHS which is basically riding school stuff, (having done my BHS stages etc) however I think unless you are an accredited trainer, training for the UKCC is difficult to come across.

Hmm, I thought so although someone holding BHSI told me that BHS is now changing their syllabus to match some UKCC requirenments. Not sure how true this is. I am a BHSPT and freelancing towards AI. I am also on Equine Sport Science at Hartpury where we are told a bit about UKCC and I have been since wondering about taking it as am not at all keen on a riding school sort of teaching. According to what you say (and to what BD website says) you indeed have to be an accredited trainer first...

BHS is changing PTT syllabus completely to come in line with UKCC requirements. Just started training towards my PTT and got told on Friday by lecturer that syllabus has changed completely, but the final copy has not yet been released!

Well certainly as far as the meetings go everyone is welcome. I have to say I really don't know much about the subject at the moment, am hoping I may be a bit wiser after the 29th! At the last committee meeting we touched on it briefly and one concern raised was that the depth of knowledge, particularly with regards to actual care of the horse, that is required for a BHSI may be lost.

Please do keep us posted! I am quite surprised by the fact that some part of the BHSI Horse Care might be lost! I rather thought some non-sport specific coaching content might be added but not that something from Horse Care could be lost

I have no idea if it will, it was just a concern that someone voiced. After all you could be fabulous rider/trainer, but only have limited knowledge of horsecare. Will def keep all posted.

At rhe BHS Insructors convention they told us that current BHS intructors will be able to do an "upgrade" type course to gain the certificate. Of the top of my head I think PI/AI's will be level 2, II's will be level 3. I think they hadn't finalised the levels above that. The course details are meant to be being sent to us later in the year when it is finalised.
