Do you think horses can see ghosts?

Our yard has small cottage at the side of it that wass privately owned by an elderly lady. Tragically the elderly lady passed away the other week although not at home.
Since last week both Sidney and Hovis have been utter nightmares to bring in and out (we have to turn near the cottage to get to the fields) and do nothing but stare at the cottage snorting.
On friday Sidney wouldn't be caught at all and when i did catch him (hubby had given up) he was fine until we got level with the house then he b*ggered off.
Do you think they're sensing something or just being idiots with the spring grass?

Did she use to give them carrots? Talk to them? Pet them? Maybe they're just missing her presence...

Maybe they're picking up on your feelings when passing the cottage.
 
I was at a show at the ILPH in Norfolk. There as a bit a ground near to me that every horse that walked over that little of bit grass would go ditzy. From snorting to mini rears It was like they were walkihg on poker hot grass. Strange
 
Don't know about ghosts. Living in a cemetery i have often looked

Horses are very sensitive to things, especially change. If their was any different comeings and goings something could have upset them. Did the lady die at home? Horses are super sensitive to death and can sense it from far away. They try to avoid the area.
We have a corner of our paddock which the horses will not go near, no idea why.
Hows things going?
 
i beleive they can - my old yard was very old and was in a ghost book for bedfordshire.

there were nights when all 3 of the ones stabled outside would snort and stare in the same direction - at nothing?

maybe my imagination playing tricks - maybe not.
 
Hi, to be honest i believe some horses can.
I wouldnt have believed it but for having experiences on our own yard for the past 7 years.

My daughter and our springer spaniel has def seen the same 'ghost' on several occasions. Our dog alerts my daughter who is 23 years old and then she tends to see 'her'.

Our horses have been 'spooked' on several occasions when there is clearly no wind, or reason and these are not easily spooked horses.

After taking some pics for evidence i contacted a medium who came to 'cleanse' the yard, it seemed to help initially but it still carries on.

I could tell you of so many experiences i could write a book.

And no....im not barmy

We're taking Sid up to the hospital in York on weds.
They've said he'll be there all day but hopefully we can bring him home that night. After that we'll at least know what we're dealing with.
It is heart breaking - watching him run up and down on friday night (admittedly not amusing when we were trying to catch him!) you'd have never known there was anything wrong with him.
 
I wouldn't be surprised if they could, they're very sensative. When I was younger I used to see a man in my room, we did have a spirit in the house but I wasn't told until we moved out, my parents would tell me I was dreaming. Most people don't believe me, but there were many things that happened (one being the controller floating across the room as if someone had picked it up and walked with it, and then it just fell to the ground as if it had been dropped) I've also experienced hearing people running about and slamming doors in another house, I know I wasn't dreaming because I absolutley soaked the bed with sweat because I was so scared, but no one else heard it even though it was extremely loud.

So yes, I beleive in spirits and if humans can sense spirits then why not horses!

I have witnessed a horse spook at a presence that I don't think was a ghost but was some sort of spiritual presence, of another horse. I felt there was a horse next to me even though when I looked there wasn't, and the horse I was making a fuss of at the time suddenly noticed it a second after me and snorted and spooked, and just stood staring snorting for ages. I couldn't see anything else he could have spooked at and don't feel that I made it up, bt unless you've ever had that feeling it would be very hard to convince a skeptic that you believe what it was.

I would guess there are some very unpleasant "vibes" coming from that house now - not only the death of the lady but of all the grief that those who are sorting the cottage out. Have you ever felt the air feel thick with grief at a funeral? or walked into a room and known there was something wrong before you saw/heard about it? I do think animals are more in tune with that type of feeling and if it is an unpleasant one they will not like to go near it. Be sure to give them lots of love and if its not an actual ghost the negative feeling will fade away.
 
I think they can also.

My mare spooked in a river once - nothing new, she spooks all the time, but friends mare who was completely unspooky and never refused to go anywhere or do anything also spooked in this river - not the same day as me.

Friend said it was the weirdest thing. Her mare was looking up and down like they do when they're trying to focus on something straight ahead of them, and then turned tail and ran for it, snorting like mad.

When I told the lady whose field I was renting at the time, she said, the track that runs alongside that river was an old coaching road and a place where coaches got held up and mugged.

Spooky!

Not sure where she got that from. I've tried looking into the history of the area but there's no mention of it....
