15 hand Andalusian six years old very good to ride shoe box etc has sweetitch but not bad but need very experienced handler as likes rearing at peoples heads but never kicks nice paces and just learning spanish walk oh and is papered and if possible to sell how much he not for sale at moment but hes a bit small for me and im thinking about it

and likes rearing at people heads?!!!! are you serious?

I suggest you get some serious help for this horse before it does someone damage.

Does he just rear in lead when excited or can this be any time ie taking in from field etc? Have you used a pressure and release halter on him or stallion chain?

sadly yes im am serious hasnt done it to me for a while but will do it to new people or nervous people only does it comming in from the field angel when putting him out

Are you selling him purely for the rearing issue, im guessing it could be fixed if you were shown how to use a pressure and release halter and he was led in one all the time, does he try to get you with his front hooves?

I would certainly work on his issue or send him somewhere to be retrained on the ground. A horse rearing in hand in my opinion is the worse fault a horse can have. However, he sounds a lovely horse who could be a super horse for someone. IF you sort his problem he will be worth much more than if you have to sell him as a project horse. My lad is a rearer but not in hand, under saddle. To be honest I think it is the hardest of the vices to stop, once established and I would get a professional to do it for you.

I hope you sort the problem as he sounds like a nice horse otherwise.

No im not selling him due to rearing iv learnt to live with it hes really to small for me i would be very honest with people and could go out on trial but only to the best of homes

What do you do when he rears in hand? Have you ever actually tried to stop it or do you just try to stay out his way?

If he has been allowed to get away with it for a long time it will be harder to stop but definately not impossible and I agree he would be worth a lot more money if you could address the issue before selling him.

Thanks for your posting i have tried to sort this problem he comes in with a be nice head collar for weeks he wont do it and you think youve got it sorted then all of a sudden will do it again no reason. I have shouted at him talked to him given him treats. He now knows whats right or wrong but still does it he used to bolt as well but doesnt do that now. I should send him away but the cost i cant really keep him as to small and i have three others all in work he would make a great dressage pony as very quick to learn and i dont do dressage but he never rears while your on him or buck or spook and hes never got my head just very close

Put him on Project Horses - be honest about his faults and realistic about a price. He's too young to be given up on.

Being only 5ft 1 this is a project I would hope to take on one day. 15hh is a good height for me and I've ridden Andalusians in the past. And I have tons of patience - I've dealt with worse rearing problems. Unfortunately I can't do it for a few months yet. But I imagine there are others like me.

Good luck

As long as you are honest and realisitic I think you can sell almost any horse, I guess it also depends on whether you want a nice home or just to get rid.....

I would not let him go out on loan, it could be a disaster, he need professional handling imho, I see from your latest posting that things are not improving. in my experience this means he has taken the initiative, not what you want, you have tried a few things with him , it has not worked, give up and get something you can enjoy safely

its a tricky one, to the right person yes i think you could sell him but you would either need to be 100% honest and accept that you might not get quite what you want for him, or spend some time trying to work on this and persevere then advertise.

our sec A has a habit of trying to pull his head away and turn his bum to kick you when caught. He can also turn his bum and try to kick when he has a rider on i.e when dauhter has lessons and instructor needs to adjust her stirrups or something occasionally when she approaches he will turn his bum and kick out. His previous owners didnt want to sell him because of this-they were worried he would fall into the wrong hands and would get a beating every time, but we found him throuh our instructor and loaned him for a while from their yard, once his owner could see we could manage him without being horrible she was happy to sell him to us. I have to handle him most of the time and he sometimes tries it on but she was honest from the start, i had a trial period to see how bad he was and bought him knowing full well that i could handle him (apart from this he is a fab first pony and we absolutly adore him!) Sorry for waffling on but maybe you could try the same kind of thing? Be honest in your advert, but emphasise that other than this he is fab and let them trial him from your yard for a few months til you are both sure it it is the right home- i felt it was much better to get a grip of our pony in his own environment before moving him somewhere new....

I would be very honest about him its such a shame because he lovely to ride and bombproof and will go anywhere you point him and never rears or bolts when ridden i will give him until the end of the year then make a desicion on him. but he will not be pushed from pillar to post i would rather Pts than do that to him he allready been though to much for his six years
