I've never tried it, but I'd imagine the hair would get jammed in the blade?, and it may end up looking uneven?!I don't think it would cope with it TBH- clippers or trimmers would do the job easier quicker and would be better for the horse too, of if they don;t like clippers or trimmers, could you use scissors and a mane comb? which is what I do when I can't be bothered to get the clippers out!
Maybe clippers would be worth a go- I clipped my horses last week and clipped their legs/feathers and looks tidy. I used to have a native as well who had very hairy legs/feathers and the clippers always did a neat job- probably down to personal preference though, and once you've clipped it off, you can't stcik it back on again!
I do all my horses heels with a solo comb but they are all tbs so there isn't much to take off! A couple of goes over does the trick and they look neat and tidy, I find it quicker than getting the clippers out when I only have heels to do. Not sure about full feathers though, you might be there a while.
Yes!!
I have done this successfully but to do it well it takes a LONG time and a patient horse.
I used to have a big hunting cob with short pasterns on a Hunting livery and I couldn't clip his feathers as his pasterns were very short.
Start on the underside of the hair not the outside.......and good luck.

My old cob had very feathery legs, which he refused to have clipped so I used to trim them by hand just using scissors and a mane pulling comb (ideally one with a long handle so you don't accidently cut yourself!) to keep it neat. I became very good at it and many people thought I had clipped them as they were so neat. It can be done, but obviously the hairier the horses legs the longer it takes. I actually really enjoy trimming hairy legs!
Last thing I'd want to use to take feathers off but like someone else said, suppose it can be done, I'd opt for a good pair of scissors along with some thining scissors and a comb, first choice would be a small pair of trimmers with a long guard so you don't take it too short.
you can but you get a very stepped look and it takes forever, i had a horse who wouldnt let clipeprs or scissors near him so i had to use a solo comb to get some of the hair off and it worked ok, you just have to make sure they are clean first and take little bits at a time
