I'm really worried and I know that there are a lot more people in this forum than in the education/careers. I did my stage 2 riding today and the flat was pretty good. I went on to the jumping and I was not as good. Good things:
1) didn't jab horse in mouth
2) Was balanced
3)Confident (surprised myself)!
4) 1st horse I jumped was very good.
5) Second horse completed the course

Bad things
1) Was on wrong canter lead TWICE!
2) I took both feet out of the stirrups to alter the length

Do you think I will have failed?

Did you change the canter lead when you noticed you were on the wrong one.
Stirrups might get you one black mark but i wouldn't have said an instant fail.

Depends on the examiner TBH.

On my stage two the horse put in a nasty refusal and then i went over the jump one handed and my stick in the air, cleared jump and rest of course fine.

Examiners don't normally comment on you there and then, but i got a bloody well sat and fantastically ridden off the chief instructor as i walked out.
Someone else might have failed me.

I agree with ^^
naughty taking your feet out he stirrups but I can't see them failing you for it.
I sometimes jump off the wrong canter lead if im doing a course - mostly it's because I dot have enough time to change it.
hope you've done well :D

Not sure if I should comment, as I did my exams so long ago it has probably changed so much...

In an exam situation like that I would have gone to the examiner afterwards to explain that the horse was in a good rhythm so you left it on the wrong leg because of that - this shows that you were aware and thinking. I have done things like that twice in exams in the past, and both times have had "thinking rider" type comments in the summary. That was years ago in the days when you got your results back on the day. When I did my stage 3 a fellow candidate fainted at the start of the day and another fell off in the jumping when the horse threw in a dirty stop. Both were among the 7 of 30 to pass that day... As for the stirrups, it would perhaps fail you if you had other areas where you were borderline. In exams you should do everything by the book, as you know.

Good luck and fingers crossed. I must be awful to have to wait!

if you corrected the canter leads then i assume you would have been ok,
however if you didnt notice it and jumped off the wrong lead/disunited twice then i think they may fail you.
i refused my first jump because i didnt really ride into it properly and i still pasted.

HI
other than that how did it go.
I couldnt say if you will have passed or failed, ill keep em crossed for you!!
I have my whole stage 2 exam next week the nerves are starting to creep up on me!!!

A friend of mine passed her jumping even though she managed to jump straight out of the arena over the post and rail fencing!. The examiners agreed that she had no option because the ex showjumper had 'locked on' and they passed her because she didnt gob it in the teeth or get left behind as it jumped out. Makes being on the wrong leg seem minor!. Joking apart, if you were in good balance I cant see that those errors would fail you unless there were other problems. Stay positive.

Re the canter leads, ideally you should have corrected if you noticed. I'd be more worried if you hadn't noticed! If all else was ok and you weren't winging the horse round tight turns on the wrong leg, I doubt you would fail on that alone.

Re the stirrups - the rule is that you either have both feet IN the stirrups or both feet OUT of the stirrups - never one in and one out (for this you will really get a bad mark :)) So if both were out you should be fine:D.

Owwww now I'm worried - I'd sort of resigned myself to passing the flat (cos they let me jump), but failing the jumping because I was on the wrong canter lead twice and had both feet out of stirrups (I was trying to see if they were even against my boots). Now there is a glimmer of hope and I'm wondering if I did pass!! I'm so nervous now.
Another problem, I'm old and the other girl who jumped in my class was young and had a tight shirt and slinky size 8 jods on (Me in my hacking jacket and size 12 fatarse). She's a working pupil and teaches at a yard down the road. She was so graceful. She looked picture perfect. Then in came the Miss Marple of the stage 2 - I'm a full-time teacher and mum who has to pay every time I ride! I hope they don't compare me to her cos she was sooooo pretty to watch.

The first time I did my stage 2 (about 10 years ago mind!) I failed on my jumping and the big black mark was because I was on the wrong lead, sorry to say. It annoyed me at the time because when I got on the horse I was told 'she doesn't do right canter'! So you would have thought the examiners might have let me off! They also failed the other girl who rode the same horse and we both ended up resitting the riding part of the exam together (in another venue of course! who gives horses that can only canter on one rein to a stage 2 exam??) and we both passed :)

Can I ask if you knew you were on the wrong leg why you didnt change it? if there was a reason for it that the examiners could see then perhaps you will get away with it. Or if it was the ONLY thing wrong then maybe you will still pass. Good luck!

Hi
I dont want to tell you this... but I did stage 2 two weeks ago, and I failed for exactly the same thing!!!!!!
I went into a jump on the wrong canter lead, and I knew when I did it, it was a no, no!!
Hope you pass though...!, good luck X

As an examiner I can asure you :-

You never fail because of just one error! To fail like that would be because there were several points where pass was borderline. The examiners would have discussed their marks and made a group decision.

I did my stages back in the time when yougot the results about half hour after finishing the exam!!

On the stage two, I was decidely ropey int he jumping, I am not a natuarl jumper and only hoped for something speedy that would go - I can happily go with a horse jumping but am hopeless if they need any encouragement! My position goes to pot.

So, I got a slow moving reluctant cob. Great. It was an unpleasant round to say the least, not in theleast bit stylish, and god only kows what leg we were on, I was too busy trying to keep the damn thing on the move!!

I passed becuase my flat work was 'well above standard' apparently. And then went on to do lots more jumping of different horses to improve - this is something I woud suggest if you can - I didn;t always have to pay, ask around friends and local yards etc. Worked for me!

You can have up to 9 "minors" I think - I'm sure the stirrups will count as a minor and I would have thought it depends on the speed of correction / situation as to whether the wrong leg would count as a "minor" or "major" fault. I hate doing practical exams, there are so many things to go wrong on the day and for you to ponder on while waiting for the result!!

On another note, did you do the exam at Beas River? I'm moving to HK in August and I'd like to carry on my stage exams - I need to do my stage 2 care and stage 3 riding (got a way to go to do a 3' xc mind you!) so I'd be interested to hear your HK experiences.
