Do you think it’s fair?

After MrsElle’s post I really want to get my OH back on a horse, he hasn’t ridden for about two years but before that rode quietly regularly, jumping up to 2ft3 ish, cantering etc. Not overly stylist (think old fashioned hunter) but quite effective and balanced on our old 16’3hh ID mare who is now retired and a broodmare.

Now my OH is 6ft and 14.5 stone, I thinking about putting him on Bodey for a walk round the block (40 mins max). What do you think? Is he too heavy?

Here’s Bodey, a 15hh (may be 15’1hh), 6 year old coblet.

Or there is Badger the Fjord but somehow don’t think he would be cool enough for my OH, he, he!

Thanks,

I think he would be fine. As long as he is a reasonably balanced rider I cant see either Bodey or Badger having a problem with him. hope it goes well!
p.s. both your horses are stunning!!

Weightwise I'm sure he'd be absolutely fine

I'd be happy to ride either of your two and I'm the same weight as your OH but much shorter.

Gosh yes, definitely fine. And I probably wouldn't be too strict on length of time in the saddle either, but maybe I am just cruel! My cob, George, is a similar build to Bodey, and I ride him for longish periods, including some fast work; let's just say I am a similar weight to your OH and only a little bit shorter. He doesn't bat an eyelid and has regular back and saddle checks.

LC is a 13.2hh Traditional cob, six years old, and I'm just shy of 14 stone. Been riding him for the two years we've had him. Vet and back lady/man are happy with it

. I'll canter him on a hack (long straights), but not usually in the school. I don't jump him.

Brilliant, thought it would be fine but just wanted confirmation! I’m not mentioning the canter thing to my OH though as before I knew it he would be off, he has no fear at all! Think my OH would have made a fab eventer, just didn’t want to any of the other work!

I would have thought he would be fine - my 6ft 2 OH has a sit on Paddy the connie once in a while. You'll have to hide in the bushes and take some sneaky piccies of him for all to see

Saw a 14.3 fjord for sale on the NFED today and thought of your Badger, hope he's getting on ok at the moment.

Thanks I’m defiantly going to get photos!!! Yeap Badger is all fine and dandy, he has had two days off to recover from the strain on the brain because of his dressage on Saturday, he, he! I’m riding him tomorrow (which he hates because I don’t let him plod) as Mum has gone away for a few days. I guarantee Badger is with us for life!!!

I think Bodey or Badger would be fine for your OH - but you must promise to show us pics, please.

My hubbie sounds like your OH - he would love to be a top 3 day eventer, without having to do the boring bit of learning to ride first!
