depends on your horse cant plait my boy night before as he loves competing and stresses all night about it my mare on the other hand could not give a damn you can plait her whenever
When I competed I used to plait the night before then roll them up in the morning. Although I always ended up re-doing a few in the morn as he'd shaken them out.
I always plait the night before, partly because my plaits look neater for a night under a hood, also if you have loads to do I would have to get up way to early and as I have to get up in under 3 hrs to leave for an event 1) I had better go to bed and 2) I would have to get up even earlier!!!
I think it depends on your horse, I can plait Harvey the night before no problem but if i plait my 4yr old the night before she will rub her mane raw and be in a complete state in the morning.. best not to bother!!!
I always do, including George's tail, he even gets turned out with them in - he's a very good boy! I do leave the mane plaits 'down' though and roll them up in the morning. If I try and plait in the morning I have to get up earlier and George and I get stressed!
we always plait up the night before, saves the rush in the morning, If you can get your plaits tight enough they will stay in, Our trick is to plait then give them some hairspray then get a pair of lady's tights put one leg inside the other, then while one person on the near side puts the tights over the plait, then the person on the offside puts band over the tights and the plaits, carry on down the neck until they are all covered, keeps them in place and clean and free from hay bits, hey presto show perfect plaits
i try to do mine the night before- but i sew them in and then put hood over them and they are usually great in the morning (having hood on them eliminates the one random 'sticky-up' plait that i always seem to get!)
not sure how my 4 year old is going to take to this tho....
I used to plait up the night before but put squares of plastic bag over each plait andsecure with a band. This meant thatthe White plaits stayed White and not turn green when she laid with her neck in a pile of poo....... Only ever happened the night before a show. Poo in the mane was not a frequent occurence usually
I always plait the night before unforunately im not lucky enough to be able to plait up in 20 mins it takes me longer to an hour think its cause my boy is such a fidget lol i usually have one or two to fix in the mornin but i leave that till we get to the show
I do the night before as well - put hairspray on then a hood - in the morning they are lying down neatly not sticking up which I hate! I know that my horse won't rub them out though...
