When adult sized individuals ride ponies ....even if they are more than able to handle the size of the person?

DO not laugh at me, but I have fallen in love with a POA ( Pony Of the Americas) mare

I am 33 and been on some amazing show horses in my day. I have to say though that I have NEVER sat a horse that rode like she does. She is more choppy in a trot than my Quarter horses but she is a FUN ride and is one of the best trained horses I have been on. She feels like being in a little sports car! She will GO! when you give the cue and stops on a dime.

Do you think it looks odd when an adult is on a pony?

She is 13hh I think (not measured....only guessing)

I also like being close to the ground and not sure why...it is not fear...I just like it if that makes sense

Nope - so long as the horse is able to comfortably carry you and your feet aren't dragging on the floor or anything i see no problem with it.

Alot of these pony's are built to carry adults - enjoy yourself!!

Not odd at all

but I'm biased as I'm one of these adults

If the horse can cope why not. People will always have something to say no matter what size the horse and rider (or pony). I prefer to see people on the correct size horse for their height but hey, everyone likes what they like. Go for it if you like it that much!

'the correct size horse for their height' is the relevant bit, that comes down to perception. At 5'7" I can ride ride anything from a chunky 14hh upwards, the sky is the limit. I choose the 14hh.

SAME here, I think it looks absolutely fine and it's so nice for some of these ponies to get a good and sensitive rider on them for a change, rather than a child hanging on the reins and kicking like the devil.

Loads of ponies are bred originally for grown ups.

Good for you!

Jade, you live in a country where big men ride short horses!! I think that horse people in North America have a different opinion of adults on smaller animals. Look at the Paso finos and Peruvians and they are small horses. No one seems to have a problem with their feet being below their bellies on them!

Anyway.........if you are happy and the pony is, do you really care? I wouldn't, any pony with a brain between its' ears should count itself lucky to have you.

Looking forwards to seeing the pictures.

Here she is a few minutes ago. Hard to tell her size from the pics, but her back is about where my neck is

She is called Misty on her papers but I am changing it as I have a good friend names Misty and just cannot call her that

My 13 yr old daughter is really in love with her too and I suspect they will have a blast together!

I love little POA's - they are so unusual and no two ever look the same.

Oh and of course you know exactly what I am going to say

. Most of mine are around the 14.2hh - 15hh mark and they suit me just fine.

I have to go and measure her to see just how many hands she is.More than likely she is closer to 14 hh than 12 but I am a bad guesser. All I know is that my feet do not drag the ground and she fits a horse size saddle just fine

I am 5'5 btw

Always difficult to tell from a photo but I'd guess she is 13.3hh. Anyway enjoy her and who cares how tall she is if you have fun.

and that's me riding slightly shorter than normal too

He certainly had no issues with mucking around when he wanted to - the git pony

Miss him though
