...for a horse to rub/scratch its head on you?

my horse does it all the time after ive ridden him, and usualy when i go and catch him from the field he will walk behind me and rub agaist me as we walk back up the field

when he's got his bridle on i will tend to push him away, until he has his bridle off, but other times i will let him do it as he really enjoys a good scratch.

Do you consider it to be bad manners for a horse to do this.. if so why?

does your horse like to rub their head agaisnt you?

My horse has a huge head and it hurts if he tries to rub on me - I push him away but will give him a rub - just won't let him rub on me

my mare was never allowed to scratch on me, when she has her bridle off i rub her head/chin/cheeks with my hands (one on either side) and she loves it, but shes not allowed to just 'butt' for a scratch - its very very rude

Same here, if I put my hands up and itch him he's allowed to rub a bit - but I wouldn't let him just come up and start shoving me

Same here - I'll rub his head for him once I've taken his bridle off, but I won't be used as a scratching post!

The only time I let merlin rub is after I take his bridle off and he likes me to hold my gloved hands each side of his mouth and he rubs his head up and down between my hands, I think he likes to dislodge the slobber and also its like a massage for the corners of his mouth which are probably feeling funny after the bit being against them!!!

He never ever attempts to use me as a scratching post, never has.... very well mannered boy!!
