CCJ's trainer did a BB Dressage Festival the other week, and won 6 out of the 7 classes she entered, on two different horses.
Some achievement you would have thought, and worthy of a decent sized piece in our local horse page of the weekly paper..
Not so, they hardly mentioned it and concentrated instead on someone 7 months pregnant who won a 1-2-3 on her three horses.
Now from what I recall only Carl Hester gets those sort of results, so don't you agree a pic at least should have been in the paper?
Oh I forgot, she came 2nd in the 7th class..

Nope, all you ever see is the '3rd placed' or 'also competed' v. rarely the winners at sj/xc classes over here, which yes, nice to include everyone but it's nice to get a mention because you have done well no because you are the papres editors friend

Wow, was that Chris? Big well done to her, that is very impressive. I cant believe she didnt get a mention in the paper, that is very unfair.

You see the same thing in H&H and other magazines. The big names, or those who have smarmed to the editor or reporter will get a mention, for simply being placed, often the winner who is unknown and may be really chasing sponsorship, won't be named at all.

Perhaps I should have made it clearer, yes they did comment on her success, but made a lot more of a pregnant girl winning 3 places instead of her winning 6 classes..
I really would have expected at least a photo of her wouldn't you?

The local press down here is a bit crazy these days.

I saw the article on the pregnant lady. I sure she deserved a good mention but so did your friend.

Our very local papers have really got up my nose recently. They only seem to feature any successes and photos from the showing scene. I have barely seen any results for local Clubs etc. Yet some weeks we see almost the same write ups in the very local papers, WMN and then H & H??

Ass lickers will always get more coverage.
The only plus point is that the people who matter know this, and will laugh at the article.

Sooo true.. I used to be in the local paper loads years ago!
I won something big and they didn't report on it at all, so a friend (without my knowing) rang them up and gave them a bit of a telling off.. After that i was in there alot, and once had a whole page pic of me, it was huge and made me blush a bit haha.
This was a good 10yrs ago, and i'm now back to not being in there at all again, as my mum can't stand "ass lickers" and wont say anything.. although it could be more the point that i don't actually win anything any more

Know the feeling have been badgering H&H about Murphy and his results, consistantly winning aff and winning para going to upto international (this weekend so report on here later) in just 9 months and as BD are crying out for para horses on loan I point out that more publicity for those owners and horses that have done it may encourage more people to loan their horses to para riders. Afterall a bit of publicity is always nice to see when there's been a lot of hard working put in. But no each time get fobbed off with 'thats interesting but we have no space this week'. H&H even creditted another rider with my horse's results which I pointed out and they just emailed back sorry and still no mention in H&H.
