Do you think my grass might be growing?

I know we haven't got huge amounts of sunshine but for the last week or so it hasn't been below 2 degrees even at night. It is going to be 10 degrees here today. When does grass start growing?

Am I just being massively optimistic?

I've had to reduce my girls hard feed over the last week as I have noticed she has gained a bit of weight then yesterday when turning her out I noticed that the grass was looking rather green!!!

Our grazing is definately on the grow! :D

Mines bright green and growing...I can't put the horses in it just yet though because the ground is soooo wet it would be mashed up in a second.

So they are still in the trash paddock...which is well and truly trashed:eek:.....with hay. I'll put them back in grass when the ground is drier. (I don't have a huge amount of grazing so I have to be mega careful)

The grass starts to grow when it is over 5 degrees so hopefully we will get some growth on this week, they much prefer grass to hay or haylage so will enjoy having a pick at some Dr Green!

Well CY that is what I'm worrying about. I just opened up the whole field last week thinking it wasn't growing and they might as well be on all of it but now I'm starting to think I should pen them so it has a chance. Gah. Why isn't it ever easy to make a decision?

Not quite, it starts to grow when ground temp reaches 5 deg. But yes we are right down south and the grass is definately growing. It is baking out there this morning compared to of late and forecast to go up to 13 deg by the end of the week.

Think the muzzles may be coming out early this year!

Our horses are definitely interested in it - they have ad lib haylage in the field but are grazing instead quite a bit if the time. Mind you they mightjust be glad all is green is again!!

I had wondered this when I turned ours out this am. My girl seems to hit top sillyness when the grass starts going again and this morning she def was off on a funny one! Can I be akward and request no rain but less grass too, I don't want grass but I don't want mud either!!!

Since we left livery and got our own place I have become obsessed about managing the grazing.....too lush, too short and stressed, too wet, too dry.....the kids laugh at me, apparantly I check out and comment on other peoples grazing when we are passing by in the car ( this cannot be true, I refuse to believe it:rolleyes::D)

Yup, would account for yesterday. First time since the cold stuff that the horses weren't at the gate when we walked up to it - they see the car come up the drive and usually that's their cue to start ambling over.

Also, Dizz poo was a tad on the green side. It was only a little greenish hue and a tad different in texture, which made me think the grass must be changing, although to be honest it still looks brown and unappetising (to me!). So glad the hay/haylage is wrapped as I still have five bales of the stuff and ours are out 24/7, so don't need it in the stable either. Wonder how long it will last (wrapped)....

I'm still on livery but my field is the one which gets over grazed the worst as I'm chilled out and don't complain when I get an extra horse dumped in it so I'm pretty paranoid about making sure the grass gets a chance too. You aren't alone. I have been known to comment on other people grass too :D

Isn't it meant to be about 15 months or so as long as the wrapping is intact? I'm sure that's what Bailie haylage told us

Ours was under snow until recently but as there wasn't much hardpack ground temp remains around 3 degrees until snow is away. I have gone from 2 big bales haylage to 1 so even in Aberdeenshire I think it will start to grow over the next two weeks provided the thaw continues.
