Hiya,

just wondering what your opinions are on whether my horse is fit enough to do a baby ODE next weekend.

She was out of ridden work for a month but was being lunged every other day (with no tack). We have been getting her fitness back up for about 1 1/2 months now starting with 30mins of walking on the road, then 20mins walking and 10mins trotting, etc. Been doing some hill work and started schooling in walk, trot and canter a few weeks ago.

We did a 2ft SJ comp. 2 weekends ago and she went clear and wasn't tired afterwards. As of the begining of this week I have been hacking her for about 1hr30mins every day, doing walk and trot road work inc. hills, followed by a canter stretch, walk, canter stretch, walk, short gallop, then walk and trot home again. I think we're currently cantering and galloping for about 10mins in total (walking and trotting on roads with a few hills for the remander of the 1hr30)

Do you think she's ready to do a 2ft ODE next weekend?

Thank you :)

I'd say give it a shot. 2ft shouldnt be too strenuous and you seem to be doing a lot of fittening work so she would probably do ok. If you think she is too tired during the day you can always call it a day and go home.

I'd say yes, go for it.... (as long as the journey isn't too far - more than about an hour each way or anything, as that can tire them out) - have fun, and don't forget to take it fairly easy the day before and a nice gentle hack the day after to let her stretch out. Enjoy and good luck
